So that might be a thing to look forward to in the future. The revival thing is listed under "packaged titles" too, so it's safe to assume they're talking about console/PC games.

How many times do I have to spin on the spot, and say "don't ruin Streets of Rage" to make sure it doesn't happen?

Do I have to make the blood sacrifice too? I've run out of virgins. I'm sure I could find a slightly used hooker.

  6. I'm all for another SoR and Golden Axe, and how about a new console Shinobi game now that the last real Ninja Gaiden game was five-ish years ago?

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
Another Streets of Rage, or NiGHTS done right, would be cool.

Also… what's with the first words in this post being "Square Enix" instead of "Sega"? :psyduck:

Just give me NiGHTS and Jet Set Radio and I'll never ask Sega for anything ever again.

Gematsu fucking up, just changed that.

Anyway I could see the Yakuza team making a really good new Streets of Rage.

EDIT: The presentation slides this info comes from, which have some more interesting info:

It says Sonic is handled by North American studios now. I'm guessing this is because Sega America is now the "centralized hub" for Sonic.

Anyway some neat stuff from these slides:

    - In addition to reviving old IPs, Sega wants to make new IPs as well.
    - They want to do more global launches (as opposed to them releasing stuff in the west way after they release it in Japan like they're doing now).
    - They want to make bigger games.

And I doubt this'll happen but Obsidian seems up for making an Alpha Protocol 2.

Out of any internal Sega Team, they'd be the ones I'd trust most. I always thought Platinum would've done a good job too.

Although in all honesty the thought of a "modern" SoR repels me about as much as most modern Sonic stuff does.

...Now an SoR4 in the same vein as Mania? Does anyone know what Bomberlink is doing now?

After Mania's hype (and hopefully its success), a Streets of Rage Mania based on Bomberlink's Remake is the next logical step to IP revival. Although that Sega Australia concept a while back where Shinobi, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage were blended into a single universe sounded cool, too.

I would love to see Monkey Ball revived from the dead, but it needs to move away from the tackle console gimmick approach that plagued it past Super Monkey Ball 2. I wouldn't mind seeing NiGHTs and JSR come back from the dead either.

I doubt that we'll get a lot of older IP's back, but I wouldn't mind seeing a new entry into Dreamcast era stuff like Arcadia or Jet Set Radio. NiGHTs could very well come back too.

I would love to see Ecco make a return too. Such a beautiful, atmospheric game.

Does Jet Set Radio even count as a "major" intellectual property. Two fifteen year old games that probably didn't sell well.

No the trick is always to make brand new material suitable for Western audiences. Because then the Sega brand becomes the marketable asset, not the product. Otherwise you risk these.

Typically a good starting point is "I have an interesting idea for a game", not "let's bring back the Streets of Rage name - game concept later".

Probably not. But by that standard how many of their old IPs are major then? If not JSR that basically excludes NiGHTs, Comix Zone, Vectorman, Billy Hatcher, hell basically anything outside of Monkey Ball, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage. A lot of Sega's unique IPs were 1 offs that probably didn't sell that well.

I'm not really sure if a modern Jet Set Radio would really be what people here would actually want. The original two games are very much products of their time, inspired by youth culture back then. Unless Sega would try to go for nostalgia, I'm not sure a new JSR would be in the same style. As I imagine a proper new JSR would be inspired by current youth culture rather than what youth culture was like 17 years ago.

Though now that I think about it I would want a new JSR like that.

How about the arcade titles? Virtua Fighter, Out Run, After Burner, Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone... Admittedly a lot of games like that might have trouble "expanding" to a full price game in this day and age, but new games based on those IPs may work well in the digital sphere. I always had an image in my mind of how Quartet would've worked really well as a small, 4 player online title when games like Castle Crashers were making a splash.

We know they're currently making Daytona 3, a home port of that released digitally would be rather nice down the line.

I always hoped after Sega released After Burner Climax they'd think of porting more of their newer arcade games for digital distribution, like Let's Go Jungle. But I know deep down that'd be just chucking money down a hole, as me and about 4 people would be the only ones that cared.

To me, Sega were always an arcade company first and foremost - Heck, even now it's Segas amusement divisions which post the profit every year whilst the consumer side is almost always in the red.
