http://gematsu.com/2016/08/puyo-puyo-chronicle-announced-3ds Normally I'd expect this to be a Japan-only thing, but seeing how Sega America has really improved at bringing games over I wonder if this game will be localized. Also a Puyo RPG does sound like something that could be fun.
Interesting take on an old classic. The RPG mode actually sounds quite interesting! Is Sonic Team handling the development of this or is it another developer?
Technically Sonic Team didn't work on Puyo Puyo Tetris, it seems like the name is used exclusively for Sonic games now. Otherwise it's just "SEGA", or CS2 R&D. (which is supposedly what Sonic Team is a part of, though I'm not sure what the source on that is)
Ah okay cool - thanks for responding! So it's generally some Sega devs behind this that might include some members of Sonic Team? I guess that's cool. It's an interesting game for sure. I'm more interested in this than any of the other more simple Puyo Puyo games. I'll be keeping an eye on this.
Sounds nice, I guess... but I don't think I'd be able to endure a whole RPG with the overly sugary designs SEGA is current using for the series, so I'll most likely pass even if it gets localized. If it was in the classic Madou Monogatari style, though, that would be a whole different story... I guess the chibiness in the old games is the cutest I can take.
This looks much nicer than I was expecting! The art direction kinda looks like a fusion of the Madou Monogatari and Fever style. Concept itself reminds me of Puyo Puyo Box's quest mode: Now I'm off to make a sacrifice to the localization gods, wish me luck!
