So is he gonna do a Director's Cut of Sonic R with the prototype models now? :v: I kid, but that's really something...
I was going to say that Jon's doing another livestream complete with Q&A so you might be able to get clarification on details... except it's happening right now as I post this, so it might be a bit late.
Amy's car having a spoiler. Ignoring the fact we probably should have noticed this, this is actually a different design to the one in that video, which suggests there was another set floating around the office. I wonder how late the change was - that above render turns up in the manual.
So... Has anyone checked said livestream, to see if any question was made about Sonic R? Or may plan to check the +2h video of it?
I have now, and no, nothing on Sonic R. Plenty of Transformers material though. I own the game on PS2 and didn't think it was up to much, but fair play, there's a bit more going on behind the scenes. Still a bit murky and dull though (but so were the films in many respects so).
To be fair, you're not going to be looking at the front of the characters that much in a racing game so it makes sense they would skip on quality for it.
I was trying to figure out where the Eggman backdrop on v0.1 came from. Then, it hit me... Spring Stadium from Saturn Sonic 3D Blast! Unfortunately... that's a stretch. lol My mind's been playing tricks, I can see how they're similar, but they're not the same. https://i.imgur.com/ZwkIVd6.png
The width being changed for that Metal Sonic model in particular...you're seeing them from behind the entire time, perhaps it was changed due to viewing considerations? That is, maybe the original model blocked too much of the player's view?
Good god the Saturn's a bugbear to code on. As fascinating as always, Jon's very good at these videos.
I find it fascinating to see how the processors are used across games. Many games just use one of the SH-2s. Virtua Fighter assigns a CPU to each fighter. The unreleased Micro Machines V3 was using the bloody CD controller to decompress graphics - I love it.
Cross referencing with another post: As pointed out by wiki user Tongara: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmmUkdVO0vs (first few seconds) These models - same as those Jon demonstrated? I'm not great at counting polygons.
Wow, never seen that before! But you might also be thinking of the Sega Flash Vol 7 Sonic R trailer.
An actual practical example of just how much of a pain in the arse the Saturn was to work with. I love that Jon's doing so well with his videos, they're fascinating.
