From the sketches looks like a different aproach. That section of Flying Battery completly stops you so you HAVE to wait for the bombs to open the path. In the sketches it look like an alternate route entrance, similar to the bridge cut-out that was also cut out.

I think it would be more of the second, otherwise it would just have to avoid the bombs and then there's no way you don't see the new path open.

Usually you would do that by making the image use indexes 16-47 in its color palette.
How would I go about doing this?

Working with 256 colours image format allows you to do this:

This way I have the first 16 colours reserved (line 0); this sucker will stick to line 1, and in this case I have a custom palette in palette line 2. Line 3 is black as I didn't want to bother too much for another line. Be aware that some programs may try to optimize palette usage and may blend 2 identical colours unless you especificate that you don't want to. This gave me real headaches when importing bitmaps to fatilety.

Now the most important question: canon or non-canon?

Can't make a vid now, but those boostpads are a fucking nonsense and there's a reason why. Take for example GH1 tubes that make you gain speed to reach upper mass of rings, that you can collect them all because cleverly placed buzzbombers apear to keep you bouncing. Well, you can go backwards though those tunnels making just a good jump to the exact spot of the ramp and rolling, then nothing stops you to reach previous part of the game except laws of physics in some manner.

So what happens if you place a boostpad right after the tunnel, or worse, IN the tunnel? You're right, fuck that possibility. You can say that anyway it's a stupid thing to do, but you can use it to get all the rings for instance, and having that possibility taken away for just the sake of automation is just stupid.
