I was playing around a little bit more with this today and I found something interesting. Remember the missing ring in Flying Battery?... Well this time around, it was there. I have no idea why it wasn't there the first time.

Anywho, a few more differences. The beta is on the left.

Things were a bit more complicated here.

In the beta you can't see the spring.

And in the beta the sign post is in front of the Egg Prison.

That's strange, why would they want it behind instead? There's probably some underlying technical reason.

Beta 606 (left) had a lot more "cheap shots" with those spiked rocks falling down. Several were removed from the final.

I also noticed something about Doomsday:

In the very beginning of the beta stage, it dumps you right in the middle of the meteors. In the final, there's space then meteors. I think what they did was moved the whole level over to the right, though there did still seem to be layout differences.

But I think the coordinates here proves my "moved the stage to the right" theory.

By complete happenstance, I've found a way of unlocking the level select and debug mode in this build.

The other day, I was poking around in the prototype to see what else I could find to put on the Sonic Retro Wiki and TCRF, and I locked on the build with Sonic 3. I then wondered if there would be a way to access the level select when locked on, so I started to do a bit of messing about on the title screen first. While "1 PLAYER" and "COMPETITION" were displayed, one of the codes I tried entering was Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up (the infamous input sequence for Sonic 3's level select), I heard a ring sound, and then I can select the Level Select menu! Doing this also unlocked Debug Mode, so I can simply hold A to turn it on.

What's more, the same trick that's used in the final to enable Debug Mode in "Sonic & Knuckles mode" by spamming "S" monitors at the start of a level and rolling through them all to glitch out the game also works. However, since the game isn't coded to restart upon crash yet, you have to pause the game as soon as the camera starts going beyond the left of the level and into negative coordinates so the game resets into "Sonic & Knuckles mode". Pressing A + Start on the S&K title screen won't call up the level select, but you can pause and press A to go to it.

The same cheat also works in the 0608 build, plus the All Chaos Emeralds cheat from the previous Sonic 3C and Sonic & Knuckles prototypes still works. Build 0612 changes the level select cheat and removes the All Emeralds cheat.
