Those model sheets are a really great find; lots of stuff that hasn't been scanned before is in there. It's really surprising how a model sheet of Maria's pink dress from episode 38 edged in there as well.

Going back to Sonic X again, I'm sure there's even more art stuff from the show out there that other people probably own and could possibly preserve. Sure, places like the Sonic Wikia have a lot of artwork uploaded, but it's only scratching the surface. It doesn't even begin to touch upon stuff like storyboards, scripts, genga, etc. Hell, there's even an entire Style Guide book for the anime which contains four discs of infinitely sizable colored artwork (similar to the Sonic Art Assets DVD). Unfortunately the poster of that tweet only owns the third disc of the four, otherwise all the art from the guide could be uploaded here by now.

So what I'm saying is: if anyone owns anything, let's take the effort of reaching out to those people and preserving the stuff. We could potentially create a huuuuge Sonic X art dump.

Wow, this is a great start already! A more appropriate name for these would be "genga" or "key animation frames," though because "concept art" is more fitting a title for something like character design/background sheets.

I really wish I knew the right people to ask about this kind of stuff, but considering how the anime ended 10+ years ago, it's getting harder and harder with each year to find those lucky oldbies who still own/know something remotely cool or interesting about it. I figured that it's best to do it now or soon, before more oldbies become unable to contact and more cool things are lost.

The art director / chief key animator (Hisashi Eguchi) for Sonic CD's opening / ending animations was kind enough to share some concept art a while back and has now recently shared some more never before seen concept art. I already added the new artwork to the Wiki. :)

Seeing this new concept art being posted was like an early birthday present to me. I've never felt so happy and excited. It's nice to finally see Amy's face lol. We never do get a clear look at her face in the ending animation because she's covering her face with her hands. It's also fantastic to see character sheets for Dr. Eggman! I love Sonic's facial expressions. They are so cute and the one with his teeth showing is my personal favorite. It's hilarious. It's nice to see the concept art for Sonic's running and super peel out animation as well. I really hope he continues to share even more concept art with us. I'm especially hoping to see some concept art for Metal Sonic. I'm so thankful and happy that this guy is nice and awesome enough to share this stuff with us!

He also drew these two pictures with Sonic but I am not sure whether or not they are new or old. He said he drew them during a coffee break. I think they might be new drawings for Sonic because the style looks a little bit different. They look fantastic though and it makes me happy that he still enjoys drawing Sonic after all these years. :)

I think we should all call Toei Sonic "Eguchi Sonic" from now on, same way as we do Uekawa and Ohshima Sonics. He was the character designer for the OP/EDs of Sonic CD, after all.

Always loved the designs from Sonic CD; I felt like they were a bit shorter and slightly different from the OVA model, an definitely drawn in a much more distinctly Japanese style (than say the Hesse model) that could only really exist in the 90s. The charm of it captured my imagination very early on as a kid. Finally being ably to see a full view of Dr. Eggman (who was only seen flying away) and Amy (who was carried the whole time, and showed her eyes for only a moment) is a real treat. :)

Gotta love those Sonic CD model sheets - great to see! = D

A lot of what I wanted to say's already been said, but I love that the bottom-right face on Amy's sheet seems to be photocopied from the one in the same position on Sonic's sheet, just with the eyes/mouth etc. altered. XD Looking at the spikier spines compared to her full-body pic, I'm going to guess the top-left one's also photocopied and altered from another Sonic sheet we've not yet seen - we already seem to have sheets #2, #3, #4 and an unnumbered sheet (#1?) on the wiki, so presumably it'd be a hypothetical sheet #5 if it exists.

That Sonic running in front of a spotlight (which is a recent doodle, yeah), for the record, is a reference to another franchise Eguchi's worked in.

"Lupin The Third" :)/>/> .. I loved that show... I remember watching it in RTP 2 years ago with my brothers ... by the way... Satoshi Hirayama which was the head designer of the second season of Sonic X, by Studio Cats, also worked in some specials of the "Lupin the Third" series...

Hirayama is actually the character designer of Sonic X as a whole. You can particularly see it in his human designs. You can also see his other character design works in stuff like TMS Entertainment's Glass Mask and his personal drawings.

I think Studio Cats is just an assistant animation studio helping out TMS Entertainment is all. I looked at Wikipedia and saw that TMS was listed under Studio Cats' client list.

The two recent posts from Eguchi are new, for sure. And yeah, I always felt Toei Sonic was somewhat of a misnomer. Toei is/was a large company with dozens of art and animation directors but the Sonic CD style came about mostly from Eguchi and the internal artists at Sonic Team. Kind of like calling Lilo and Stitch "Disney" designs when we much more specifically where that art direction came from.
