Why hasn't SA2 been released for the PC or 360?

THey need to port it so it actually runs in HD, not some windowed shit in low res non widescreen crap that sonic adventure on xbla/pc rerelease was.

needs to keep 60fps too, can't see sega giving two shits about that in a port.

Not sure what you mean, it runs fine with my Corei7 with default settings.

Heely's bought the rights to SOAP from Artemis innovations in 2003/4. I'm sure if they contacted them, they could strike up another ad campaign with them, especially now, seeing the popularity of parkour.

The problem isn't Soap (which no-one cares about and we know they could just do a quick model swap), or the Chao Garden (which despite a vocal minority the majority of people either despise or do not give 2 shits about), the problem is a game that hasn't aged all that well and had issues at the time being ported from a legacy codebase that hasn't been touched for a decade (unlike SA1 which had a PC release as late as 2004, meaning the codebase there was about half the time since being touched) that arguably began an era Sega may well be best off largely ignoring. Heroes onwards at least had the excuse of being built from the start as cross-platform titles and as such were releases at the time on PC - SA2 wasn't, and as much as it will pain people to hear, possibly SHOULDN'T be released now. It'll also cost more money to make (because of aforementioned legacy codebase).

If you want a HD SA2:B, get the aforementioned emulator. It's your best option.

Overlord hit it right on the head. It wasn't so much that Sonic Adventure 2 never deserved to be ported because of some arbitrary gameplay or cosmetic feature so much as that it was much more convenient to port everything that came after it. They had fresh code and the idea of porting to the PC already in mind for most titles in that era after SADX. Rushing (not optimal considering how many damn patches I still had to apply to DX) to develop SA2:B for the PC market right after DX came out in Japan 2003 would mean it coming at least 2 years after it had already been out, heavily promoted, and sold as SONIC ONLY ON NINTENDO GAMECUBE.

The fact that Sonic Adventure got a re-port in 2010 is largely irrelevant as it's just a recursive port of the one they already pushed out in 2003 and thus would cost nothing to develop. Hell, even as someone who probably played SA2 more than any other Gamecube game I can safely say it's pretty damn dated now and I probably wouldn't buy it unless the community was hacking it to bits or it came packed with another title like Jet Set Radio.

Considering my $900 laptop can run the PAL version of SA2:B at 50 fps and 720p and a slightly better build would be able to run it at 60 fps at 1080p, I think you are over-estimating how much a PC with the capability to play the game in Dolphin costs. Probably a graphics card like a Geforce 8800GT and a 3 GHz dual core CPU would be good enough to play it, as it's not a very demanding game. And if that doesn't work, you can always try running SA2 in a Dreamcast emulator, for which the system requirements are much lower. You even posted a video of your old PC playing it at 720p and widescreen in NullDC:

Let's just say a well built PC at $500 can handle both Colours and SA2B fine on Dolphin at 720p.

Also, I've ripped GC games through the network on my Gamecube using a copy of PSOEp1&2, homebrew and a broadband adapter. You don't need a Wii to rip GC games.

Mind telling me how to get them to run? My ~800-900$ hexacore with an awesome graphics card still lags in areas on Colors, and I have the aforementioned problem with SA2B (Funnily enough, SA2 on DC is fine, but still)

Maybe I'm using an outdated version of Dolphin or something.

I heard some people can get better speeds by overclocking.

  10. No! Really?!

Before altering you CPU unnecessarily, double check the Dolphin site for the newest release and the same site's wiki for the relevant game. I know there are some games that do not like the dual core option, for instance.

Dolphin mostly relies on the CPU. You can have a Geforce GTX 560TI, but that won't matter as long as your CPU isn't good enough. It also only uses two cores, so if you have a quad core it will only use two of the cores.

And like others said, use the wiki to find the best setup for a specific game or overclock your CPU to get better performance. (Be careful with the latter though)

    What the fuck?

You're gonna have to be more specific.

Maybe Sega is waiting to re-release SA2B on the PC and 360 because they want to put online play on it?

...okay probably not but still other then that I have no idea why they would wait so long.

First try playing with the Accurate VBeam Emulation setting in the game properties, that setting gives Colors a hell of a speed up.

That's what I hear when people try to play Sonic Colors, even on the newest builds. Although, I've been only using Dolphin3.0.

Seriously, just get a Wii (£120), a component cable (£15), and put the game in (Priceless). Awesome quality, no problems (Y).

I don't see all the fuss getting a super computer.

Building a hexacore computer can be cheap, especially if you already have some parts. I bet I could build one for half that price.

Oh wow, that really IS a hell of a speed up. It plays at full speed for me now =O

In response to the computer prices though... I spent, what, $500 tops in the end for this computer (custom built)? It's not even all that great and I can emulate SA2B at 720p with Dolphin's widescreen hack at full speed; I don't know where that $900 price range came from. I could even do it before I unlocked my 4th CPU core, while using integrated graphics (which Dolphin doesn't really care about anyway), and only had 2GB DDR2 RAM.

    I can too.

I'm wondering what processor did he buy that dealt $900 worth of damage to his wallet.

    Well, going back on topic:

    The response of why:

Its easy. All those games that Sega re-released for XBLA and Steam...already had ports to other consoles or had native PC ports. They only had to port Space Channel 5 Part 2 from PS2 to PC and call it a day. Both Crazy Taxi, SADX and Sega Bass Finishing were already released for PC a good while back...and porting from PC to 360 is not hard at all. That's it. No "Dreamcast ports" at all, just re-released PC ports with a few fixes here and there about resolution and bam.

    ---

    Offtopic and about Dolphin talk:

I could run SA2B fullspeed in a shitty Dual Core E2140 OC'ed to 2.8ghz. Dolphin and PCSX2 made giant leaps in the past months. I always recommend using the latest SVN versions to see the improvements, using the official releases is just plain boring too :P... I have a 3.3ghz Phenom II x6 right now, and dolphin at 1080p (with a HD5750 1GB GDRR5) is just piece of cake. Fullspeed in pretty much every game...and emulating Wii is somewhat harder for the CPU than emulating GCN. Just because of double processor speed.

No need for i7 or anything, a i5 or II x6 is more than enough... btw, dolphin uses 3 cores at most so you're gonna waste cores. 2 Cores for emulation, and a 3rd one for the DSP audio if you want accuracy. PCSX2 had an update a few months back that enabled using a 3rd core for the VU1 (Vector Unit 1, its the unit that process the polygons on the Emotion Engine) that made every game run pretty much fullspeed.
