Is the OST for Sonic Mania available for purchase online? I looked on Amazon and the vinyl was the only thing available for purchase. Are there other places I can buy it from?
Nah, as far as we know, it's only the vinyl. Althought there are Youtube videos that have the dl link for an unofficial soundtrack, though I'd recommend the Vinyl more for supporting's sake
I want to support the Team for the awesome work they did on the game. Though I don't own a record player, so there would be no way for me to play it. It would be nice if they offered the OST as a digital purchase, so I can have mp3 files of it. I would totally give them my money if they did.
Considering the Data Discs Vinyl release comes with a digital copy of a portion of the soundtrack, my personal hunch is that SEGA's under some sort of exclusivity agreement which literally prevents them from distributing a complete, pure digital for a certain amount of time. My best guess, if this were true - I don't have a deep understanding of contract law - is that it would expire either 3, 6, or 12 months after the release date of the game. Whether that'd count as console or the later PC one doesn't particularily matter, but... The other possibility (that I like the idea of less) is that they don't want to pay the licensing fees to release all of the old, remastered tracks for what was supposed to be a relatively budget game, and the Data Discs release is the result of months of internal debate and compromise. I mean, Hydrocity...
Well, you're in luck! The album comes with a download link for the contents of the record, both in MP3 & FLAC.
I didnt know the album came with a download link, that's actually really neat! But look on the bright side, you could have the mp3 files themselves, AND a nice large piece of card art with a disc for collectors sake
Also, unless I'm wrong, doesn't the download that comes with the vinyl only cover 16 of the total tracks? Only the ones that are actually on the Vinyl anyway. I'm half wondering if Sega is waiting to release full Mania and Forces' OSTs together as one multi-disc "Phantom Ruby" album or some nonsense like that?
Yeah, it only comes with the tracks that are included on the vinyl. The vinyl publisher, Data Discs, is only a relatively small company and most of their library is made up of SEGA game soundtracks. Mania did especially well for them - well enough to get a second run before the first run has even been shipped. I would buy a second half to the soundtrack in a heartbeat (and already got all three editions of the vinyl already). SEGA ought to do a full release, at least digitally if nothing else.
Didn't find out about this until today, otherwise I would've jumped on it immediately. Shame that even the second release is sold out. What're the odds there would be a third, ever? Or at the very least, an FLAC download.
It seems you can still get it through Amazon, but it's not releasing till next month. http://amzn.to/2gyvpbw
So out of boredom, I've been trying to decipher the Act 2 lyrics, and I think it's 100% Accurate. For fun, here's the Act 1 lyrics: Metallic Madness Act 1: Sonic, come and play, Sonic, come and play, Sonic, come and play, Sonic, come and play. Check the rhymes, check the straps and I'm back yeah, Roll out the door straight up, Storm the cargo. I'm a black belt, I have no Fatigue, Out of my league, naughty egg, you can see the crew in it. Check out my moves, Check out my speed! How's that feeling? Going fast with these jacks on my feet, I live in the fast track, but you're getting in my way, I carry the day, hey, get the, (Nananana) Run! Metallic Madness Act 2 deciphered lyrics: Wha? *vinyl scratch* Wha? GO! Wha? *vinyl scratch* Wha? I'm a Evil Doctor with a rad genion and rad minions, Who'll help you save the planet and to intervene? I bend the rhythm like you like you never seen, I'm the greatest fighter who has ever been on your screen! I'm iconic, with my bionic and animatronics, I'll finally catch that st- hedgehog they call Sonic! Fabled and Isotronic, my mustache of fire, Welcome to the New World Eggman Empire!
Not bad. Some of this is pretty accurate, although I've read enough versions on YouTube as well to get a general idea of the lyrics. Two things though: 1) "I carry the day, hey, get the, (Nananana) Run!" - The last word is actually 'Madness', not 'Run'. It's the same sample used a few more times after this, although it's pitched down a few times in it's subsequent releases. I'm surprised no-one else can hear this, as I thought it was pretty obvious. 2) "Welcome to the New World Eggman Empire!" - I think this line has been somewhat confirmed by Tee Lopes himself as being 'Welcome to the rule of the Eggman Empire', which was pretty much given out as a hint in a tweet a while ago. I can hear that, and your interpretation though, so I'm unsure.
Storm the castle. My take: The evil doc with a bright genius and rad minions To help me set the planet into entropy I battle with him unlike you've ever seen I'm the greatest fighter to have ever been on the screen I'm iconic, with my bionic animatronics Stop the running menace, that's the hedgehog they call Sonic So, Mr. Sonic, my moustache's on fire Welcome to the new world, Eggman Empire How long is a while? I went back all the way through August and found nothing.
I cannot seem to find this tweet either. I swear if was at the end of August/start of September. I don't want anyone to feel like I'm spreading false information, so my apologies, but I definitely remember reading it. It would be nice to get some clarification on a few liens though. While most seem to agree with the bulk of this stuff, there's a few lines that I've seen some very contrasting takes on.
Same! It's hard to even transcribe the lyrics since they have the same issue with the original Sonic CD tracks (which is a good thing/meme) Literally spent a solid hour revising this like a mad man. Interesting. I heard a lot of funny variation of the lyrics such as "See the pattern that I am defeated" but yeah, beautiful music!
