No, the title isn't snarky or anything, this is an actual crossover involving Virtual-On and A Certain Magical Index (and it's sub-series).

The Index fans are pissed that is isn't a new anime season, and both sides are confused by this specific crossover. Yep.

That being said, there's already a light novel crossover between these two that is basically "the Index characters play Virtual-On, shit gets literally real", and it's apparently pretty good, so a straight adaptation that's just Virtual-On with visual novel sequences could turn out pretty good.

    O-oh...

Well at least it's a new Virtual On game for consoles I guess.

    But also just, why??????????

Because there's already a light novel crossover, this is probably just an adaptation. At least it's pretty clear that it's a Virtual-On game first and foremost, though.

Granted, mechs based on and using abilities from Index characters would add some interesting variety as well.

At least it shows Sega remembers Virtual On.

Now where's that Steam port of VOOT, guys? :v:

I would love a Steam port of VOOT along with Jet Set Radio Future.

Although, I have high hopes that this new Virtual On game could actually be great.

Man Sega really likes their dugunki bunko whatjamacallits.

If this is a proper new Virtual On that's cool though, will probably just have characters portraits nattering away in the corners at all times.

Details from Gematsu, also turns out the title should read as A Certain Magical Virtual-On:

So basically it'll be Virtual On with more anime.

    Miku Fei-Yen wasn't enough, apparently. :v:

I might import the Vita version if I have the cash and it turns out good, although I severely doubt the Vita will have twinstick controls considering how nasty the sticks feel on it...

Apparently it was just the beginning, and I couldn't be happier with that. :D

This crossover is baffling, but on the other hand, maybe VO will be fast and fun again after Force and Marz. I'm also hoping that matches are generally 1v1.
Assuming it still looks nice once we see gameplay footage, I'll probably end up importing the Vita version. At least I'm okay with VOOT-style pad controls.

Looks like a proper new Virtual On, though with more anime. The game releases on February 15th in Japan.

It's not popular in the west for obvious reasons, but the Gundam VS series is huge in Japan. I kind of view that series as kinda sorta a spiritual successor to Virtual-On, or at least somewhat inspired by it in terms of gameplay. I wonder if that's why Virtual-On is making a comeback.

It's funny, because Gundam Vs was inspired by Virtual-On, which itself was inspired by Gundam.

A Model2b game getting recognized in the current console generation?

That's insane. Also, Virtual-On uses a LOT of buttons.

Holy SHIT. I was not aware of this and this is AMAZING. I didn't realize Model2 was already on modern hardware. This kills some plans I had but I am gladder to see the games preserved in this fashion!

  17. I really hope at least this game journeys to the US. I doubt it, considering SEGA never released the PS3 version of VO:OM. I can't believe it took me so long to create a JP PSN account but it was so worth it to get my hands on VO:OM again!

I have been thinking as someone already posted on here VO:OT would be great for current gen, even a VR mode for the PS4 would be awesome.

Virtual ON has always been one of my favorite IP's that SEGA has, and I wish we would get more of it. I remember speaking with the wonderful Heather Kashner who was the Consumer Promotions Manager, this was at the Championships, and mentioned to her that SEGA needs to bring VO:OT out to the US. I remember a month or two later it would be coming out stateside, but published by ACTIVISION. I was so happy to finally have the game, but after a while it just didn't feel right to see the ACTIVISION logo on a SEGA game.......so I imported the glorious JP version the moment I could play import titles on my Dreamcast.

Oh not to mention some of the best music is from the Virtual ON series....

This looks neat, I've always wanted to play Virtual-On. I have the first one, but I don't have a Saturn so I can't play it.
(Yes, I do buy games even if I don't have the console, if it's cheap enough I'll grab it...)

I guess I could always try using an emulator, if Saturn discs work in computers.

I've also never read/watched A Certain Magical Index or it's side-story, so I should probably do that sometime as well.
I might import this when it comes out, unless it comes out in the US.
