I had a crack at reshading the toucan badnik a bit. The axe beak is just an idea I'm pitching out there, to make it look more unique and menacing: ---> Also <!--quoteo(post=246280:date=Nov 16 2008, 04:01 AM:name=Kamon62)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Kamon62 @ Nov 16 2008, 04:01 AM)
Finished the sprite. I used blue instead of green because I thought it would make this Badnik stand out more. Also, blue was the first color I thought of using when I saw the sketches. The jet packs are brass instead of silver for the sake of originality. Also, I made the wings more rigid (this was a challenge to draw) and made them not look so attached to the body, since this a Badnik design we're dealing with. Now that I look this over, the wings could probably use a bit more contrast, but how you do like it so far?
Not sonic style. You need to take a look of sonic 1,2,3 and S&K sprites. That's what I did. (Edited, because I was busy back then and Tweaker complained)
That's a really nice sprite, Blue Emerald! It could look more like a badnik by adding some faux bolts and making it look more like a machine, since all the badniks in Sonic games prior were clearly machine looking. I also can't tell the difference between the bird and the jetpack, but that's okay, since it's supposed to be a trap.
Incredibly constructive and helpful comment! For the record, I'm going to start trashing posts like these.

The shapes are poor looking, specifically the head, and the boxy feet. It looks like it could use some more shading, or perhaps a reflection as it is metallic. It also doesn't seem to look very "Sonic-y" too me barring the eyes.
From what I can see, it is "Sonic style" for the most part, but the problem is, it still doesn't look like a badnik enough. Mainly needs to be more menacing and have a few more clear details to show that it's a robot and not just a regular bird, like the bolts CyclopsCaveman mentioned. Badniks are mean and nasty little killing machines, and S3K and Chaotix especially brought out some of the uglier-looking ones, as opposed to the cuter, more cartoony ones from previous games. The new sprite definitely looks a lot better in terms of proportions, though. I'm also digging the new palette. I'll take another crack at it later, provided Thundertimi doesn't beat me to it. EDIT: Maybe it's this screen, but you may also want to apply harder light, mainly in terms of darker shadows. You can also add little shines at the bottom to make it look more like metal, like Thundertimi's sprites:

Try first make simple shapes, like balls and squares. I still think, that's not "Sonic style" enough.
For the record I actually like the parrot quite a bit, though its main flaw as noted is that it lacks any sort of highlighting -- badniks are made of metal, which means that they should have a metallic lustre.
That's lot better! Now it fit's in sonic game. Good work Blue :P (You guys proved me, that's sonic style afterall. Thanx!) Next, we have to make flying animation. Can you help me whit it? My weaknes is shaping skill. I can do final edits. Is that ok?

That looks much better! The facial expression and choice of colors are very fitting for that sort of badnik. Nice job!

You've got some good shades on it, but I don't like the antenna sticking out of its head. Maybe we could tilt it back a little and make it a bit smaller. Also, I believe you're right about it being too dark for the rainforest level. Maybe we can brighten it up just a little. I do like that new wingshape Zenor has, though. It looks more streamlined.

Thanks! But I don't think it's going to be a tropical level, as it is "Rainforest Ruins Zone" - I expect it to be sort of a more dark-themed level.
