No, you're not the only one. I have always imagined it as something better, like a city getting destroyed, and going up in flames, showing the Death Egg in the sky. But then, it turned out to be nothing but a Scrap Brain look-alike.
Keep in mind this is called Cyber City, not Genocide City. My personal thoughts? Genocide City would have been another time Zone of this Cyber City (most likely the "bad future").
I find it quite funny how the "Sonic 2 Long Version" hack has Genocide City as a literal, actual city, and then this concept art surfaces. This would have probably been a very interesting level; I wonder what the boss would have been. Though really, had it been implemented, I don't think it would have been much more than a Metropolis rehash. Or possibly a Scrap Brain rehash, as someone said before. (Edit: Shoot, I didn't notice which section this was...I just noticed a discussion about Genocide City and decided to jump in headfirst. I apologize for posting in this section; I will take it as a note to be more careful in the future and look where topics are.)
Posting in the achives isn't neccesarily a bad thing. Atleast it wasn't a huge bump. =P (Even though you can't actually bump in the archives.)
But sometimes the imagination is far more awesome than the reality. I mean, would you really want to see the less interesting visuals of the concept art's version in Sonic 2 Long version than what was imagined?
To be honest? I hated Genocide City in the hack. The "Cyber City" (or Genocide City as it is believed to have been renamed to) Zone would have been far more interesting, in my opinion. Kind of like how Metropolis was, but maybe less lava and crap. And hey, if the time travel concept had been implemented, it might've been connected to Metropolis itself. Pure speculation, of course, but... Another possibility is that it's an early draft of Metropolis Zone, and the "City" in Cyber City and Genocide City is merely a coincidence.
Why not? I just noticed a striking similarity in how the two look. And while I do admit I know a little bit about the beta version and its cousins, I'm unsure of why this isn't possible. Mind informing a newbie here?
Yeah, Cyber City was meant to be in the game as well as Metropolis, but since he couldn't finish it in time, he just slammed another act on Metropolis. I figure that'd also debunk any possibility of a playable version of the level ever existing, as well.
Ah well, I guess I'm flagged as a "retard," then. Might as well have fun with the 18 (17 after this post) posts that I have left, but I'm pretty much toast at this point. Seemed like a nice community, too... And in an attempt to salvage this post, I will simply say that we'll probably never know everything that the Sonic Team had planned for Sonic 2. But hopefully, more pieces of the puzzle will continue to surface as time goes on.
while metropolis has 3 acts that will mean there is wood zone was zone 1 metrepolis was zone 2 and geniocide city was zone 3 just my theory
Three things wrong with your post. 1) It's just fucking retarded. 2) It's a big bump. 3) Your grammar sucks shit. Why don't you check the last post date BEFORE you post?
Yes, it is a two-month bump, but you aren't the right person to bitch at a person on the board. Nor am I. Also he is 'contributing' to the topic with his own theory. @errorTH: I don't think the Sonic Team would do this, although little is known about Genocide City zone. All we truly know is that it was canned early in the development of Sonic 2, and that it is simply Level Select text. Thanks to research, we have come up with many theories in which all three of the levels may have been tied in together at some point during development. I take a few searches into the board, along with the actual website to learn more about the three zones.
Last I remembered, bumping rules aren't applied to the archives. But it's still a good practice to not do so. =P
