Frozen 2 and the dumpster fire of a movie Sonic The Hedgehog Movie 2019 at the same time in theaters... *crosses fingers on both hands and toes on both feet* SEGA could really "Let It Go" when it comes to any green-lighting of a second movie when this one crashes and freezes hard at the bottom in the box office. Here are all the film copies of the Sonic 2019 movie in 2020 as they didn't even bother to release it for home or streaming services:
It's all hypothetical of course until the movie actually comes out, but I've learned never to underestimate just how outnumbered we all are by normies who don't care in the least about faith to the source material.
The popularity of stuff like Bay's Transformers among general audiences kinda surprised me when I was younger but I've gotten used to it by now. I think with loose adaptations like that a large part of their success nowadays though is the Chinese audience who didn't necessarily grow up with or even know about the source material. How's Sonic's popularity over there? I could see that demographic being a large part of the film's sales. As far as other countries’ audiences go, a small part of me wonders if making Sonic a furry animal will get some Japanese people more interested in the film. He's not that cute, but I can see him appealing to a certain demographic as a sort of kimo-kawaii (I guess the best translation would be creepycute? It's a thing) character. I doubt it but after the popularity of stuff like Ted due entirely to him being a fuzzy teddy bear you never know. It would be interesting if Sonic went from “that blue thing outside Sega game centers” to “that fuzzy thing from the movies” in the Japanese public eye. You can't fool me, that's just a screenshot from the movie.
"Battered spouse"? "Weeping widow?" Listen, we got to clarify something or else it's not going to end well for our blue little fella: I'd always choose a good video game session over watching a movie for 2 h or so. Because of that I would have loved to see my favourite video game character delighting the audience. But most of all his reputation in the video games community needs fixing. SEGA, please unleash Sonic's true potential soon.
Evidently, there's a "Baby Sonic" plush being made for the movie. Either this is artistic license for plushes, or there's an infant Sonic in the film. Help.
It's amazing. Just amazing. If this movie showed up in a parody of shitty mascot movies that completely miss the point of their original properties and introduced endless waves of horrid new ideas that literally no one asked for, I would call it too on the nose to even be remotely plausible. It's like someone in there is endeavoring to live up to EVERY single stereotype about that awful kinda tie-in stuff that I thought was long dead now.
For the first time ever, I'm actually partially lamenting the fact that I'm quitting my movie theater job in a couple of months. I'm now imagining the kind of stupid "special" merch the studio might ship there and insist on being handed out on premiere night.
Wasn't one of the stories the BRB was forbidden from telling in Sonic Boom was any kind of origin story for Sonic? I guess with Sonic Team gone, all bets are off.
I don't think my eyes are ready for baby Sonic. When is the trailer finally dropping, though? I'm slowly starting to get sick of all these leaks and want some confirmation already. Also, if that leaked script is real, boy are they really pushing the brand deal with Nike.
Interesting choice to have Sonic hatch from an egg? Also, I hope they explain how uncle Charlie landed on the name "Sonic", because it strikes me as somewhat arbitrary. Are you willing to leak a few more pages? At least the story is looking promising, maybe it won't be the dumpster fire everyone was speculating...
The writer probably wanted to keep the movie PG-13 by having Sonic hatch out of an egg. And also to me it seems like it relates to Eggman.
