Archie Sonic #91 has been delayed again, this time to April 26th: https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/NOV161172
Ugh it's like if they're going to cancel at least publish that and Sonic Mega Drive 3. It'll be the closest this series would ever have to a conclusion anyway.
Noooooooooooooooo. Damn it they couldn't even finish that? I really wish they could enlighten us more on what's going on.
I checked the store's site and they say the expected release date was March 1st. Could be they messed up and cancelled it cause they passed that date and didn't get anything. Then again I have no experience with the store so I don't know.
Omg, I will literally cry if we can't at least get the last issue of the Sonic Megadrive series. I freaking love the art and writing in it. It's the closest we've ever gotten to a comic that is like the games. Even though the story is original, it's universe is similar to the games and ever since I was a little girl that's all I ever wanted. The closest we ever got to that was the Sonic OVA, Sonic CD opening / ending cutscenes, that rare Japanese promotional Sonic 1 Manga, and the rare Japanese Sonic Dengeki Manga's based off of some of the Modern games. I wish they would at least announce what's going on instead of keeping everyone in the dark about it.
Seems to be the Sonic strategy these days. Keep everyone in the dark, no announcements as to what's going on with the comics, no news on Sonic 2017 or Mania (not even a release date), barely any coverage on the Boom cartoon, but here, have a meme to hold you over :v:
This is why I love being a fan of this entire franchise. Where else could I become part of a decades-long rollercoaster of emotions? Which company could provide anything similar? Now I'm a masochist. Thanks SEGA! :specialed:
So my first post here, let's try to clean some stuff up. A certain former employer for Archie said on twitter and I quote, ‘With no SONIC listings in the latest Diamond Previews Catalog solicitation for May from Archie Comics, I believe the series is cancelled.“ That was back in the 28th of February. I decided to go do some digging. On Diamond Comics website, if you click the preview button on the top row in the middle of the screen, it takes you to Preview World where they have the solicitations for upcoming comics. If you head over to google and search the comic name along with preview world, you'll find the issues. Sonic MegaDrive Overdrive is coming out March 29th Sonic Universe #95 comes out on April 12th Sonic the Hedgehog #291 comes out on April 26th Sonic Universe #96 comes out on May 10th And Sonic the Hedgehog #292 comes out on May 24th But for the time being, they are place holders as the comics are delayed. The other Archie comics have been a little delayed as well. BMhedgehog over on Sonic Stadium was able to catch the Coast to Coast Comic Con: Archie Comics Live Stream which you could only watch this stream if you actually went to your local comic shop. He said the following: “Okay I went to my local comic book store for the Coast to Coast Comic Con. Now during the Archie Comics segment of the Live Stream Broadcast they didn't talk about the Sonic The Hedgehog comic book series, but it was mentioned that the reason for the delays in their comic books is due their focus on the Riverdale TV series.” That's it for now. I'll share more details as I come across them.
Is it in anyway possible that the delays could really be because of a Sonic Mania/ 2017 (Resistance) adaptation that was supposed to fit in around this time but the internal projections for the release date for the games were underestimated and they didn't have time to work in new stories for the period and couldn't solicit covers due to non-disclosure agreements? It would make Ian's tweet about "writing Sonic Resistance" make more sense and with the classic adventures running currently, Mania would fit pretty well at the cap.
Personally I would like to say yes, but it may not be that. Archie comics isn't the size of Marvel Comics or even DC for that matter and doesn't have a second branch for TV and films like the other guys (i.e. Marvel Comics has Marvel Studios). My guess is that anyone who was working on the Archie, Riverdale, Jughead comics is helping with the Riverdale show, while whoever was working on other properties have been giving an opportunity to work on the main Archie line of comics. It would explain why Ian Flynn is all of a sudden writing Jughead now (and yes he said he is still gonna be writing for Sonic).
A fan at the Sonic SXSW Sonic panel asked the first question for the Q&A section and it was what is going on with the Archie Sonic Comics. The response to the question was as follows: "We don't have any news to share at this time, but when we do, we'll let you know."
....Hmm, even with just a vague answer like that it shows that SEGA is aware but even them aren't allow or won't talk about it.
If they can't talk about it, then it's cause of the current lawsuit between Sega/Archie & Narritive Ark/Scott Fulop. Hopefully some good news will come out from them, or Archie. Also that court case is in pretrial, and it is a mess. If anyone would like to know what's going on atm, please just ask and I can share what I have found on it.
This series of events has been the most blatant subtle hinting I've ever seen. They just need to come out with it already. Make it official and kill it. Just so long as the license goes to a publisher that appreciates it and keeps passionate creators on the series.
I just checked previewworld.com to see what the word is. Before I show the results, please note: Items listed below have been cancelled from earlier PREVIEWS solicitations.
