Decided to make some more use of my Sally sheet. Surprise. Download link (Rev 1.0): http://www.sendspace.com/file/yn9xu5 A quick project mostly, due to largely being edited from either the Sonic 1 hack or Amy's Sonic 2 data. Controls are mostly the same, though I've added a peel out to better handle the faster pace. I've also boosted her skid to work more like a downgraded roll, able to destroy obstacles and boxes (she's still vulnerable to enemies with it though). Bugs: * Sally can still somersault while skidding, however it's a bit rough around the edges, you can only do so via the C button and it's not yet refined for different terrains like water and speed shoes. Will likely fix for next update. * Sprites still not fully refined, especially the Special Stage ones, with I can't make larger due to corrupting the other objects. * Title screen has a slight bug where Sally disappears after a few seconds. Will likely also place in the usual emblem later on. * For some reason if you gain more than one continue, the game will freeze after you lose all your lives. * Due to awkward pallette layouts, I expect a few will be disappointed by Super Sally.
This looks really cool. I never was a huge fan of Sally, but I loved your Sally in Sonic 1 hack to death and played it more than vanilla Sonic 1 by a long shot; her playstyle was absolutely perfect for even the slower linear stages. I'll likely do the same thing here with this hack; it's great to see Sally in Sonic 2, finally! I'll definitely be giving this a quick run through later tonight.
Now Sonic 2 really suits Sally! The Chemical plant... can imagine her planting C4 charges there... not to mention the Death Egg she'll really want the launch of THAT Stopped!
True, Satam even mentioned Mega Muck as rare note to the games. Then Scrap Brain of the first is practically Robotropolis. I'm tempted to think they at least caught glimpse of a Wood Zone screenshot while making SatAm.
Love how you always give me new reasons to re-play the classics E-122. Also like one of the guys said, Sally really fits in the atmosphere of Sonic 2, particularly in the industrial looking stages.
Revision 1.1 uploaded: http://www.sendspace.com/file/veiouw * Added emblem to title screen. Also fixed the title animations to sync again. * Juiced up the sumersault move, it now also works with both B and C. * Edited Sally's stats a little. Similar to the first game, she's slower but has better acceleration. * Fixed the continue screen freeze bug to some degree, but had to edit out the 'chibi Sally' icons to make it load for some reason, so you'll have to guess how many you have left. Will probably add this fix to the Amy hack as well (which I've only just found out also has this bug D but I'll see if I can find a more efficient fix first. * Fixed up a few sprites and animations slightly. Tried to improve Super Sally's color scheme a little. * Added Knuckles' Special Stage stipulations.
Hey Psi, I remember a year back I was talking to ChelseaCatGirl about you making a Julie-Su hack. Do you even have her sprite sheet, let alone considering to implement her at all anymore?
I've been helping Chelsea with some sprites but I don't know what her plans are right now, especially since her Trial Membership here ended. It seems the character may have been retired anyway.
I'm wondering whether to fine tune Sally's sprite a little, she seems a tad flat compared to the games standard texturing, especially with her hair. Which do you think looks better? I'm also wondering whether I should bother putting this into the contest, due to being a rehash of my first hack and the absence of the Knuckles trophy this year.
3rd one looks the best IMO... and yea, why not submit it?... unless you got something else? Maybe they'll dust off the trophy and give it to you anyway. It certainly couldn't hurt.
I personally don't like any of the edits. I've always felt that your current one looks perfect, the new versions look like they have been greased up.
While I like all of them, I think the left sprite would fit best with your hack since the other two seem to have much more detail in them that the rest of the game's (I'm assuming Sonic 2 in this case) default sprites lack, that's to say if you're keeping in mind the consistency of style. Although if there's one thing I'd suggest is perhaps giving the hair some highlight much like the one on the right, only soften it to give it a subtle, but noticeable shine.
Sal in Sonic 2, PERFECT. As for the sprites, I'd say the 2nd one (in the middle) is the one to go for in this hack, it gives out more of a Sonic 2 sprite feel with that shine on her head. The 3rd one (in the right) looks more like it belongs in Knuckles Chaotix more then anything else.
