Unfortunately I came back to SA2 recently, and discovered that it was, as Kogen pointed out, best left at childhood. If a PSN port comes at a fair price with widescreen, I'll probably pick this up as I've sold my copy of SA2:B and my Dreamcast is on the fritz, just so I can play a bit of City Escape when the mood takes me.

I really only play SA2 anymore for the Chao Garden. It's probably the best side-game ever.

I can play SkiFree on Windows 7. On rare occasions, older games don't run on newer OSs. Pacman world 3, may not run on Vista, but it probably will run on 7.

Despite rare Operating System occurrences that the OS developers cause themselves, PC is always a safe bet as a permanent medium.

Given the fact that I have never played Sonic Adventure 2, I would support a Steam release if that is in the works too.

Just deal with the resolution issues though? If I can do custom resolutions with SADX PC (original release), I should be able to do it here. Of course, SEGA's PC porting section are just lazy people, Sonic 4 being an example of this.

Surprisingly enough, I came back to SA2 recently too... well, SA2B, that is. Played it in widescreen with Dolphin, and completed it in about 3 hours with a bit of sidetracking with the Chao. If I could just play as Sonic and/or Shadow straight through the game instead of switching characters every 5 seconds, I'd be perfectly OK with this game, to be quite honest. (which is mostly because I play through the Sonic and Shadow levels so quickly, and then a treasure hunting level comes up... which is "OK", but not when I don't actually want to play it)

I really dislike Tails' gameplay—well actually, no I don't; it just doesn't belong in this game, especially when I turn the game on and expect to have something closer to the original Sonic Adventure. But I guess I could just go Action Replay this thing to death, ignoring that it obviously doesn't fix the game. =S

Other than that though, if I were to just ignore the other characters (which is a little difficult to do, especially with Shadow and his limited level selection), I'd say this game is rather good. I also look forward to this release, although if it's not ported over to the PC, I probably won't get it, considering I have no reasonably sized storage medium for my 360... But hey, on the bright side, SA2B isn't hard to emulate. And once the Dolphin devs get GBA emulator linking working (with SA2B and VBA-M in particular), there's no reason to play anything else! =D

And on the note of hacking: It's really not particularly hard or anything to hack SA2B already. I mean, at least you can repack the disc image and have it actually boot up, unlike normal 'ol SA2 for the Dreamcast. I could never get that stupid thing to selfboot again after modifying it (and I wasn't just doing it wrong or anything, as I've gotten it to work with Sonic Adventure; Sonic Adventure fixed edition lol~). I've already removed Sonic's mustache that nobody notices.

Anyway, I went off on a bit of a tangent. I think it's more than likely going to be—if this does exist—a port of 'Battle; and seeing as SADX got a(nother) PC port, it's somewhat likely that this will too, and I really hope it does... as long as they don't pull the same thing they did in 'DX.

    Edit:
The original release was easier to deal with from the hacking side of things for its resolution. The 2010 version... not so much. I'm sure somebody will figure it out eventually, but I don't think we should settle for that.
Edit again: Oh derp, just got what you meant. I guess my point still stands in general, though. :specialed:

Speaking of that ugly ass border in SADX, did anybody ever get rid of it in the 2010 PC release? Last time I remember checking on it there was some issues still.

Can't find the post I was looking for, but last time I saw it, Jimmy got geometry to render at a larger scale, but Sonic just popped out of the border... which was still there, IIRC.

Ahhh thats pretty good news, id really prefer the Battle version over the original, although knowing Sega, like with SA1 they will sell SA2, and then also sell the "Battle upgrade"

I know people have a lot of problems with it, from gameplay to gamestyle to lipsync bla bla, I only truly hated 2 things, Pumphin Hill and Madspace, the rest of the game was fine for me lol

But yeah, cool, I'll drop some MSpoints for SA2, its still personally my fav 3d sonic game, I'd play it again for achivements XD

If more evidence to back up the rumor surfaces anytime soon, I would definitely be excited about this. It was my favorite title on the Dreamcast, and the Battle Version made it even better. (Even though the Dreamcast controller felt like the more "solid" experience. For some reason the GC controller and it's "loose" analog sticks just feels all wrong.) But if it's only on the XBOX, that's going to be a real buzz-kill. D: I'd prefer to get it through Steam or the PS3 instead. Hopefully they won't change anything visually, because the game looked amazingly smooth with a VGA adapter on the DC. 8D

I wasn't too crazy about Knuckles' and Tails' gameplay, though, but if only because it was a horrible fit for those characters. Although I have to say that their play-styles worked out much better for Rouge and Eggman. All the "dark" levels were very fun and fluid, but the Hero's side of things was really frustrating and confusing! The annoying rap tunes didn't help either.

Maybe they'll give us an option to disable the vocals for Knuckles' level music. It certainly would make the songs from his levels a lot more enjoyable. I liked Tomoya Ohtani's compositions, but I just hated the rapping. -_- I wonder who at Sonic Team honestly thought these lyrics would be a good idea to have in a Sonic game.

"Ain't nobody gonna come here and eat my plate, no!
Yo what happened, my Emeralds' gone!
Somebody gonna get their's quick, my word sworn,
Who could'a did this, that stitch named Rouge!
When I catch her, Imm'l get her with these tools,
There you are, come here you little thief!
Think you gon' fly and get away quick? Uh, uh!
Give up the Emeralds or die, I don't love you!"

"I ain't gonna let it get to me, I'm just gonna creep,
Down in Pumpkin Hill I gots to find my lost piece.
I know that it's here, I can sense it in my feet,
The great Emerald's power allows me to feel.
    I can't see a thing but it's around somewhere,
I'm gonna hold my head 'cause I have no fear.
This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Ask him a question and he vanished in a second,
I'm walkin' through valleys cryin' pumpkin in the alley.
Didn't seem happy but they sure tried to get me,
Had to back 'em up with the fist, metal crack 'em.
I'm hearing someone saying you a chicken, don't be scared!
It had to be the wind, 'cause nobody wasn't there.
I searched and I searched as I climbed up the wall,
And then I started to fly, I went in deeper!"

"It sure beats fighting with the foes all the time,
But I gotta do it, they always stay out of line,
Sometimes I wanna just chill and land,
But I'm the protector of the Emeralds and gems.
Staying up a duct, I'm in a deep cut,
I'm seeing skulls that burn, they trying to cut me off,
Avoiding my luck, I'm feeling kinda stuck,
I'm in narrow hallways running like it's a ballgame.
Hand track, beat track, all lead to different hallways,
In a maze, and I don't know what to do,
Guaranteed though, Imm'l find the Emeralds,
They don't call me Knuckles for nothing, I can't lose."

"Sonic, what are you doin' here
I heard you were on a quest to find the master emerald
You know me and you don't get along
I don't think dat's the point right now, Knuckles
I know how much da emerald means ta you
And I wanna help get it back
    Stop bein' stubborn and think
    Well, I guess you're right
    Ya damn right Knuckles
I know Eggman's secret stationz here somewhere
All we have to do iz find it
I know we'll need a key ta get inside
Dat's our only way to find it
    So let's go"

Maybe Sonic Team thought it would be the hip thing to do. Whatever the reason, it fucked up some really interesting compositions.

Man, without the lyrics I don't think I could have stood the spend-a-whole-half-hour-at-a-time-finding-shit to begin with. The music as instrumentals isn't bad but I can't play it for a half hour on its own without it getting old fast. Shit was really repetitive.

EDIT: I do have to give Pumpkin Hill props, though, as its music is basically a remix of a few Matt Furniss tunes for Lemmings 2 and such.

Are there even instrumental versions of those songs? I can't find any version of those songs like that except shitty fan-modified versions that are plastered all over YouTube.

Like all english stuff in Japanese IPs (especially in that era), it probably was there to sound cool. Imagine Knuckles stages with Japanese or Korean rapping. That's probably what it sounded like to them.

Don't think so. Still, except for part of Death Chamber I don't think there's much to them other than some fairly short loops.

Anyway, I maintain that of the Knuckles music for this game, Aquatic Mines has the best music to sex with. Discuss.

    Staying sane.
If SA2 was re-re-released, would SEGA need some sort of re-licence from SOAP to use the shoes or would they simply use the generic Sonic buckle shoes?

Speaking of which I know the Sonic shoes were the "customised" Scorch/Nitro model but was Shadow's shoes based off any of the models and are the models still available? (preferably for the UK)

  19. The multi-player was what made this game shine, imo. The only way I could ever tolerate Knuckles and Tails gameplay was if it were on 2P mode. I'm really looking forward to the online matches if this rumor turns out to be true.

Visual wise, I hope they keep a consistent model. On SA2B, Sonic's 2P intro would be the Cube model, then throughout the race, it'd switch to the Dreamcast model for no reason. I hope they fix that. I wish all the character models were the Generations models, but we all know that's not happening.

Even though it's not likely either, I hope they fix the dialogue in cutscenes. "Hey, it's not his speed, he must be usiMY NAME IS SHADOWing the chaos emeralds to warp."

I'll say again what I said the last time the idea of this was brought up - they might be able to do this and make some money out of it, but the better question is whether they should. Sonic is only just clawing his way out of the last few years of bad games with titles like Colours & Generations - the last thing the brand needs right now is a reminder of worse times like 06, Heroes, and arguably where this trend started, Sonic Adventure 2. Bugs, boring gameplay levels (just about any Knuckles/Rouge stage), Chao Garden (a really stupid idea that was only really done due to the Tamagotchi fad of the time)... and don't go thinking they're going to put effort into this, it will be just as Sonic Adventure 1 was. Though as there is no PC-based revision, they'll just use the GC code to split into an "original" and "SA2:B" DLC addon.
