Urgh, and I just came back from my trip to Tokyo, look like I was a few weeks too early... it's so frustrating missing a Sonic event in Akiba, given that I've spend like four entire days there, and I absolutely love the franchise. Do you have any video of it by any chance ? I'd love to see what the event looked like from a bystander perspective.
I certainly do! I'm going to edit together a small video of the event over the weekend once I dump all my SD cards into one folder (jetlag got me good atm) :v: All I can say is, SEGA put on a great show for the fans and the general public alike. A real eye-opener. Also damn, I got to play some Thunder Force IV and forgot how damn good it is.
So, what are the odds of ports of Shining Force III and Panzer Dragoon Saga happening? I mean I know the Saturn isn't exactly anything more than a niche console, but it'd be nice to have official releases that aren't insanely expensive. Of course, I also have my "pet games" that are Japan only and are really obscure and are probably never happening (Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru for one) - but hell I'd just take Panzer Dragoon Saga even if that was the only Saturn game ported. Also, I am legitimately excited that Thunder Force IV is getting some love. Now maybe some of Technosoft's other stuff can get some love too (TF III, TF IV, Elemental Master, Hyper Duel, etc.) :v: Thunder Force IV is probably my favorite space shooter ever and I've been wanting a re-release since like forever, so this is perfect.
I can't wait for SADX to be butchered yet again for the Switch. This time they'll put all the textures through a filter to make everything look like it's playing on a VCR.
I mean, wouldn't that arguably be an improvement? A lot of the textures in SADX are gross, so anything to disguise that is probably good. SA1 needs to be ported for a change, rather than SADX. Whilst SA2B is worse in a few areas than SA2, it's still solid all-round. SADX is a bad port that gets worse every time it finds its way to a new system. It'd be nice if SEGA went back and ported the original games, or even properly remastered and improved them. Enhanced ports would be grand too. You know, like SADX was supposed to be to SA1.
I wouldn't be surprised if they simply cannot port Panzer Dragoon Saga. Not only because they probably lost the source code and assets ages ago, but even getting a back-up copy to reverse-engineer is a nightmare and a half nowadays.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was the case, unfortunately. If Sega found a way to port it, they could even sell it at full price ($60) just because of the insane prices it fetches on eBay. It's such a wonderful game that I'd love for it to be playable outside of emulation (or being rich :v: )
Whilst I'm editing my video of the event, here's a 3D Printed Iizuka that was behind glass, along with Sakura Taisen and Puyo Puyo's current producers. It's very special.
That would be nice, but knowing their track record they like to use the most recent version and go from there. Example, Sonic Forces was built off Lost World for some reason when they should have back pedaled to Generations.
Hey All! You may remember I said I managed to go to this event and film some of the interesting bits - Well, six thousand years later I actually remembered and edited a nifty 2-3 minute supercut of what happened (which was mostly walking around and looking at cool stuff!). Anyways, if you're remotely interested in seeing a guy play Sonic 1 with an oversized Mega Drive controller, have a peek! (my own face and voice is kept to a minimum to reduce the cringe factor, you're all welcome)
