No; it's a way to place monitors in places you couldn't before.

As a reference, here is a pic with the starposts from Sonic 1, 2, and 3. I think we should focus on progression, meaning we should draw a starpost which would fit next to Sonic 3's.

The star rotates with the flashing once activated? Hm, that could potentially work.

Just felt like trying something different, could happen when you activate a bonus stage or something.

I wanted to see how a more "mechanical"-looking starpost would look.
So, I made this. It's a modification of Matwek's.

Transformers! More then meets the eye!
What's up with the star being all curvy? I'm pretty sure it was always meant to be a fully basic, stereotypical star.
Also, how about inserting these ideas? The first one simply looks cool.

I like Test-Object's idea the most.
The one with the two lamp post. Not that shit where he swings around.
We want the Sign Post to be a quick flashy visual effect that can be seen even if you zoom by. Not a distraction.

Animated and a little extra:
What if the starpost gets up?

(the 3D games inspired lampost looks cool, but can it really be done? To give it the 3D effect they should be on different layers, and I'm sure this can't be done in the classic games. Not sure about E02, though)

Holy shit.
Bar should totally still spin though, but I love that spinning star.

Might be cool to make an even more elaborate transformation for when the bonus stage is opened up.
But at the moment I'm loving that just for a regular checkpoint

FUCK YES YOU ARE THE BEST STARPOST EVER.
Just have the little ring of stars above it like usual for the bonus stages.

Like the idea of a tramsforming starpost but do not like the bottom part how the outer shell simply 'dissolves' away. Maybe you can make the two peices of the outer shell slide away instead.

You also want a new colour, each lamp post from 1-2-3 change slightly in colour too along with the silver metal shade, so you want to progress on that too, right now it seems to go from light yellow to a darker orange...
