Sega should add mod support to more Sonic games on Steam

Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by True Dude, Oct 25, 2017.

  1. So, I just bought Sonic Mania for a second time (got it on PS4 day one) on Steam for the sole purpose of trying out and making my own mods for it. The modding tools are coming along well, but it's been making me wonder if it'd be even better for both the modding community and Sega if they added support for Steam Workshop. SADX has tons of great mods, SA2 has a decent selection, and Mania's is exploding. They added support for Sega Genesis and Mega Drive Classics and it's been in frequent use ever since. No idea how much it boosted their sales but I imagine by a lot. What would it take to convince Sega this is worth their time?

Adding support for MD Classics was essentially adding a couple of checkboxes that amounted to "allow replacement ROMs for the existing games". Adding it to those other titles would be somewhat more complicated - they'd potentially have to look at APIs, etc. It's not just as simple as swapping out a single file.

They could start by not actively hindering modders for no reason.
Really, Denuvo does basically nothing to help Sega because it's already been cracked anyway, and the same thing will happen every time they try to release a game with it.
We don't need them to support mods, we just need them to stop doing stupid shit like that.
