Yeah, I'm actually very surprised. From some of the information released by the courts, Penders is faring much better than any of us really would have expected. He has a couple of previous writers/artists supporting him, and at this point it seems like a stale-mate is going on, with Archie wining some things, and Penders winning others. The courts threw out Archie's asking for a summary judgement and their paperwork on Pender's contract work, which had discrepancies. Penders had to pay Archie $13k in legal fees for missing a deadline, and both sides have been asked to attempt a settlement (Can't link this info, but A Moment of Archie Sonic's tumblr talks a bit about it). As surprising as it sounds, I think Penders may actually now stand chance, which blows my mind.
BobR finally explains what's going on: So, basically, this is to cut off Archie's funds for the case...which stopping publication of the Archives won't do, especially this far in. Ken, this may well be your lamest plan yet. You're barely denting Archie's funds, and just pissing people off more. Way to go. EDIT: Oh look. Now Bob's misreading responses. People pointed out that this is hardly a financial dent for the case, and he starts going on about how if Ken wins, Archie will be fined millions in copyright violations, completely ignoring that this would only be after the case anyway (with this ploy being to defund them before the case is over), and ignoring that if Ken wins this small dent in funds would kind of happen anyway, and Ken would essentially be saving Archie on fines if he won by stopping this. What a thoughtful guy.
It looks like Mr. Penders has created his own movie studio called "Floating Island Productions". He's making some real masterpieces, folks! First up, THE LOST ONES, which is supposed to be a full movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quGiiAeCyjo And if that wasn't enough, he's also directing a webseries called The Republic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWVdRRAI15M&feature=plcp "Those bombs. They're falling in the valley."
$40 Million US net worth? Really? While not impossible, that is extremely unlikely considering the success of both the Archie and Sonic series, as well as the number of years they've been in the business for. unless there's something in writing that can back up what these guys are saying, $40 million seems like a very miscalculated estimate. and @Gene: It's Mary Jane laced with crack cocaine. a combo that Bobby Brown used to smoke heavily during the 90's and early '00s. Maybe he gave Ken his stash when he went sober? :v:
Ah the good ol CAD order. How many more of these dipshit instances have to happen for genuine copyright reform in the US?
You know, I don't get Penders, from the look of things he can do and get other work and stuff, I don't see why he's bothering with the whole Archie Sonic lawsuit bullshit. If he wanted to do a different take on the comic and do his own thing he could have did a pitch with Archie, or hell just release it for free for his fans (what's left of them that is), this whole thing is just a waste of time that could have been easily solved with a couple of pitches and calls, but no, we have this shit going on that's been delayed for god knows how long. Also I'd fire his legal team, they sound like they are WAY over their heads, and out of their minds.
Does Sega have any role in this at all since some of what Penders did was a bunch of Palette Swap the Echidna?
At this point, I'm pretty much convinced that the copyright system is pretty much fucking broken if Ken can actually somehow have some semblance of a chance. Then again, copyright was always there to benefit big corporations way more than artists, and is becoming increasingly out of date in a digital age, so, yeah.
I said this the last the The Lost Ones was brought up, but Penders keeps reminding me more and more of Garth Merengi:
Coming soon: Ken Penders' SnarkFace, a drama about Echidnas in a nursing home stopping the demon Archies from destroying the world.
The Republic is awful. Awful, awful, awful. I don't understand why the picture quality is shit. Then check their channel. There is a 15 minute special feature of Penders talking as though this project is of some sort of importance. It is ridiculous, and a lie to himself
The Lost Ones looks so damn fucking awful. In fact, everything that Ken does is crap. I've seen more creativity on DeviantArt by 15 year olds. Seriously, some people in this world have an undeserving feeling of self worth, and Ken Penders is completely the definition of such a person. His art work is terrible, his stories confusing, uninteresting and uninspired, and he has no shame. Floating Island Productions is just hilarious and I really don't know if I should be taking this guy and his work seriously. He's an experiment for legal procedures, but that's about it.
Listen to that gorgeous audio. Straight out of a 1992. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSbRYo90c1E I cannot comprehend this project. Or any of his others, really.
Wait, seriously? ...Holy shit, I think they are. And...music from the Iron Man soundtrack? ... KEN PENDERS MASTER OF COPYRIGHT You can't use his work, but he can use yours!
Please tell me that you're kidding. I only watched it once when massively sleep-deprived. This is a new level of hypocrisy for Penders. And, yet, I'm not the least bit surprised. ...How can Penders still afford this? Between his new legal fees (apparently) and his bankruptcy, I'd think that if *anyone* would win a "war of attrition" it wouldn't be the broke guy, not again a company with several series making them (presumably) steady profit. This still confuses me.
He is butthurt because the only talent he has is writing, which he sucks at and he just wants a quick way to make money and get attention to himself. It's not working, and he bit off more than he could chew. If he continues this, I'd say in the next couple of months he will be surviving on food stamps. He's an idiot. He got paid by Archie, and now he wants more money?! Wow, I bet the lawyers are going to find a loophole in the law and exploit it, but it is very very unlikely. Ken Penders, if you are reading this, stop the case. You are wasting everyone's time with your massive over-inflated ego. You aren't Steven Spielberg. Stop trying to make people upset. You agreed with a contract, you honor it. Your stance is like comparing an ice block to antarctica. You are bound to sink because you got nothing.
