So does anyone definitively know for sure whether or not the USA tracks are still under copyright by whoever did them on the original version, and if so, if they'd enforce copyright on YouTube videos of Sonic CD 2011?

Same goes for the JPN tracks and the samples of popular music in the Final and normal Boss themes?

YouTube is ridiculously strict on copyright (people have been banned for playing the bugle during war simulations, people have lost entire accounts off of false copyright flags, and even official band pages ran by the bands themselves have been banned by their own copyright bots multiple times).

I'd like to make videos of this game because it's my favorite, plus because I'd like to get more people buying it, spread the word to a decent-sized audience, etc. but I don't want to get nailed if the creator of the USA music is strict on his stuff (or if the JPN song samples have gotten people nailed before).

Only reason I made a topic about this is because I figure a lot of you are going to be making videos of this game too, so it'd help out a lot of others and it wouldn't get lost in the original 160+ page Sonic CD 2011 topic.

    Thanks in advance!

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
Is it still under copyright? Absolutely. Would YouTube give you trouble about game videos containing it? Not a chance.

Typically, game music copyrights tend not to be enforced nearly as strictly. In part, because it doesn't hold nearly as much value to the company on its own as it does in the game, and in part because (and don't quote me on this because I'm severely oversimplifying it) game footage is pretty much covered under fair use and the music is part of the game. But really, they don't care, and that's what matters most.

Not sure if the fair use thing comes into play though when you have ads on your videos (as I'm a YT Partner)

Whenever I get copyright claims I dispute them under fair use (I'm not a partner}.

Have you uploaded any other Sonic CD videos? If there haven't been claims on them you should be fine.

I'm monetization enabled too... but aren't you able to disable the function per video? I know I can... and need to, thanks to the majority of my content being stuff from TASVideos.

    Videos for Hellfire Commentaries.

Yea, anyone who is a Youtube partner can enable/disable monitization per video. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine with the music and all. The music IS a part of the game.

By the way, <anon>, you wouldn't happen to be <anon> on youtube, would you?
