Pantufa the Cat : Extended Edition is a joke hack where you play as a Tails recolour. The main goal is to make a hack that plays and feels like yet another 90's mascot game that's trying to harness the hype of other mascots such as Sonic the Hedgehog. It is also meant to show that I've improved a lot since the original Sonic hack it was based on, Pantufa the Cat (do not play this unless you love subjecting yourself with more cringe, then again you did click to read a thread about a Fan Character in Sonic 1 hack). Just look at this garbage! Alternate Soundtrack : Holding C before the level loads switches Soundtrack (basically the original OST for Pantufa the Cat (redone)) to give the hack a little bit of variety. Some changed Graphics : Because the palette wasn't compatible I reshaded most of the Graphics, except some Scrap Brain Zone objects and Eggman. Different Jumping Mechanic : You will only start spinning when falling down, this means you're vulnerable when you start jumping. Health : 3 Health points and Stackable shields, every 20 Coings heals you. Planned features: Spoiler Float Spin : Pressing any button while in mid-air make you do a special spin attack that gives you a very faint double jump, giving your jumps a longer horizontal range in exchange of vulnerability while not spinning. The rest of Pantufa the Cat Remastered : Give the same treatment as Pipes of Green (Pipe Green Place) got for the other levels. More playable Characters : The Character select in the current version was originally meant as a joke, but I do consider adding GuimO and JP Boxart Bubsy. A Streets of Rage portion : Yes this wasn't a joke, it will be implemented. Easter Eggs : More of them goods. Oh look, a winter level I may get to finish this year, provided I don't get too distracted with festivities
Hey, that looks good! You made an great job doing this! Also, the dog is barking. I like the snow on the ground. Looks very nice!
I wanted to get more done than this, but I clearly misjudged my time. Here's something quick in the meantime (forgot to add special thanks to Markeyjester, whom helped me with the music)
Pantufa the Cat was not bad at all. You used some unique ideas and a color style not typical of Sonic games. I enjoyed it and still have it.
I can't get anywhere with that thing I just tried the December demo and this is probably my favorite hack I've ever seen. The graphics style is unlike anything Sonic related making it feel like a new game, and I like a lot of the small original things done to the engine to make it feel even more unique i.e. the photographic pause screen. The original music is pretty good in my book too. Looking forward to where this one goes.
Well, I discovered how to kill Eggman based on pure dispear, I started smashing all keys until I found out the correct. You know, you can have your own game with these mechanics.
This Project is now considered Schroedinger's red cat Due to lack of feedback and interest (mostly from myself) I have decided to put this hack on hold. This doesn't mean the project is dead but It's not active either, besides It has hardly moved past last SHC2016's Demo build. The fact it didn't meet the goal I had set for myself has discouraged me from working on it, and over time progress had slowed down so much that I honestly doubt if it's even worth finishing. With that said, putting this on hold will yield me more time for other projects I happen to be part of, and these are likely more worth finishing than the garbage I would have added anyway. In the end, it's one less joke hack for this year's contest and, in a way, it now lives up to it's subtitle!
+ - ~Yay Double Post Since this Project's been put on hold, I thought it would be a good time to share one of the only things that did get progress on: the music It's really difficult to get any Music feedback and so far only three people were ever helpful. Track 1 Pipes of Green - That song people thought it was from something but turned out to be a original piece Track 2 Blocks by the River - More of a Piano test than anything, it's a city setting much like the original's "River City Place" Track 3 Mount Fade - Some sort of mix between snow and ghost theme'd level Track 4 Inevitable Machine - a factory like level, nothing to do with the original's "Factory Place" because that was just a SBZ recolour Bonus Track Diamond in the Sky - you can never get enough Sonic R
This is a real pity, as it was one of the more unique and visually well done hacks and I certainly wouldn't consider it a "joke hack". Hopefully you'll pick this up again in the future, or at least channel the unique style into a new project down the line.
ENTRY PAGE Here's that rushed DX version of the original and here's the list of all the things you can do: Level Select is the Konami code: Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B, Hold A and Press Start, obviously done on the title screen. There are demo levels for extended edition, Pipes of Green and Mount Fade (Although Pipes of Green is just a Munchy runner ala Mario world hacks). There are 3 other playstyles, more details in the entry's description. With the exception of Valley ruins and the Extended edition demo levels, there is a DX act for every stage, change it to Act $03 (Act 4) to play them. There's about 65+ music entries in the Sound test, most repeated (the original Pantufa OST to compare), "shitposts" or unished tracks and stuff from the past. Known Bugs and other issues: This doesn't work on Hardware! - It does, but some models don't work due to the inclusion of the debug register, sorry! I got stuck on the layout around ... - Complain to me from 6 years ago, layout was NOT the focus as this is just a shitty Sonic after the sequel DX joke hack Why did the sound go borked and my health messed up? - You're playing a Japanese region genesis/emulator, it's a leftover from the score 1ups from Rev01, it doesn't happen after awhile so feel free to explore any regional differences I added. Why is the water all messed up? it wasn't like that when I came in - You paused, that upsets the oceans This is garbage, I'm gonna go play this other hack instead - please do that, It's not worth anyone's time
