I honestly love the game. The spindash was only gimped I think because of the second player holding you back. When you let go of the spindash charge button, it takes a split second for the 2nd player to finishing charging. Because of this, the 2nd player holds you back, and the spindash has no effect. A couple times I was able to get a decent spurt of speed from the spindash. if someone hacked Chaotix and removed the band, then I'm sure the spindash wouldn't be as gimped as it seems with the band enabled.

Blasphemy! Knuckles Chaotix is the best non-Sonic Sonic game ever created. Hell, it's the best Sonic game ever created after 1994, I'll give you that. The colors, the physics, the gameplay, the zone arts, the level layouts, the soundtrack, everything was spot on, and it was the closest thing we could get of a propper classic Sonic 4.

Knuckles' Chaotix is a game that always make me come back. In fact, I started playing it again some days ago, and got hooked to it again. I found it courious how I was thinking about the game, and this thread suddenly jumped in the index frontpage.

For all of you that bitches about the combi-ring system and how it supposedly sucks, it is because you lot fail to understand how it works. It's so simple and fun. It's no rocket science.

Interestingly enough as well, I was planning to create a solo hack of this game today. Once again, for some odd reason the topic has being brougth here as well. Even though I like the main gimmick of the game, some frashy air is always good, that's why I like to play Sonic Heroes solo and no flickies Sonic 3D Blast.

So yeah, I found Chaotix an awesome game.

    Working on my art!
Nah fair enough, I actually had no idea that Espio could climb. Guess you learn something new everyday. Hell just the other day I found out how to get into a secret path in Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic 2. I've played that game since 1994/95 and it was my first game ever. That right there shows awesomeness on the level designers part.

And no I get how the combi system works I just don't like it is all. I guess Chaotix has some merit to it, but most of the game just settles with me in a bad way.

The combi system is ideal for co-op Sonic-y gameplay.
I played with a friend and we had fun for a good bunch of hours.
Instead of Sonic running and Tails always leaving behind.

I wish this kind of system would be used and perfected for 2-P mode for other Sonic games.
Bring the co-op multiplayer to a game that seems to be impossible to do it right.

I would probably go as far as to say Chaotix easily makes it into my top 5 favorite Sonic games. The Combi system once master is very much enjoyable. Playing co-op with another experienced player is also amazingly fun. If anything I think it makes you work together more than most other multiplayer games.

The co-op can be tedius at times but it is hilarious with two players. It's more the generic level design that lets it down. Two many stages have the same structure with no new innovations, usually just 'left-upward-right-upward'. The character moves are fun but not enough the save the games longevity and prevent it from getting repetitive. It's only worsened in that you have to play the same level four times over.

    Fun game but very flawed.

Mean Bean Machine is still my top non-Sonic spin off.

I just hold my partner throughout the entire game.

However that still doesn't solve the much bigger problem of insanely bland level design.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
That's my main problem with Chaotix. I just can't get into the levels.

The Combi system shows promise (even though the jerkiness it causes is supremely annoying), but the level design doesn't really make it worth learning the ropes.

    Music kicks ass, though.

The music, graphics, and special stages in KC are all amazing. Its just the levels which aren't so great IMO. I get lost in Speed Slider Zone every time I play. I wind up going in circles - and thats the only Sonic level that ever does that to me. Thats a tell-tale sign of bad level design.

Eh, I liked the game because it was a seriously focused on some Co-op play, which I'm a sucker for. I mean, I've never actually run through more than a single level in the game alone, but I've made it halfway with a friend. Usually I end up stopping because I'm a perfectionist and the Special Stages aren't coop, so it's all very jarring and I get bored and put down the controller. Not to say the special stages aren't fun, they're just a little too much sometimes, be it too slow, to cramped, or too long. There was a lot of potential, otherwise.

  12. I hate Chaotix.

It's borderline unplayable to me, because I just don't want to deal with the stupid tether. Even in my moments of clarity in which I can manage to barely deal with it, the levels make me want to chop off my thumbs. No thanks!

    Chaotix? It was... okay.

But it is the predecessor to the mediocre Sonic Heroes and introduced the "Auto Spring" as I will call it. I mean, you can just walk into springs and they'll propel you. Yes, minor complaint, but it does go to show where the laziness of springs came from.

It's beatable, but for a game with 5 zones with 5 levels each, this is LONG. This is tedious in fact. It's just so.. bland so to speak. Everything but the gameplay is awesome while the gameplay is OK.

It's a good C rater. It can be enjoyable at times.

I got scolded in the IRC for disliking this game. It's a big improvement from Sonic and Crackers, but still, it's very broken. Plus, the level layout is awfully confusing. The art direction is an eye sore....literally. The colors clash and hurt my eyes. I remember when I was a kid and wanted a 32X just for that game. Man, I'm glad I never got it.

The ROM's name is "Sonic Crackers", not "Sonic and Crackers". GoodGen lists it incorrectly, and as of yet, Cowering hasn't updated the name for some reason.

The upside to the springs in Chaotix is that you jump off them in ball form. Actually, going through ramps and other gimmicks also automatically puts you into ball form. Makes avoiding damage a hell of a lot easier than in other Sonic games.

Hell, the game gets even easier if you run through every stage carrying your partner around. Makes a great throwing weapon.

Everything about the game is perfect save for the gameplay itself. I'd be entirely willing to excuse all of its faults if they'd added two or three more zones to alleviate the need to pad each stage with 5 acts and/or put more effort into distinguishing the level designs for each stage. I can't think of very many games that rival Chaotix in terms of blandness.

Bonus points if they'd added character-exclusive paths. Imagine the replayability they could've squeezed out of the game!

Call me crazy, but I didn't really like this game when I first played it. I felt that the controls sucked and was overall not impressed. However, I just played it again, and I must say, it's really grown on me. The more I play it, the better it seems to get. The graphics are quite good, the music is excellent, and I've got used to the controls and gameplay.

Besides, any game where you get to play as Mighty gets a gold star in my book.

Correction: Charmy + Heavy = Shin Wrecking Ball God Mode ('cause Heavy's invincible)

I for the most part dislike Chaotix. The only good things to com out of it were Vector and Evening Star.
