anyone learned anything in the def files regarding the looping pathways that extrude out-words?
the ones sonic can walk on. or perhaps hidden items or cubes that aren't displayed in the viewer?

Look back a few posts - that's what cooljerk & I were discussing with all the hex stuff... yes there is stuff in the def files that is not shown in the viewer.
The paths are there, but looks like coordinates are currently in hex and there's maths involved :D but we've made some progress on it. Looking forward to the 23rd as it's the end of work and I'll have a lot more time! smile.png

I'm in the middle of moving from Austin to Houston so all my computer shit is packed away ATM. I'm stuck with my netbook, which doesn't have any of the code I've been working on. So on my side at least, progress is halted for a few days.

But, like energy said, we've made headway in figuring out the hexdump data. We believe it's a series of coordinates which tell the path how to draw, but the specifics aren't hammered out. I'm pretty sure I found a pattern in the data, which I posted a few pages back.

If anybody else wants to help contribute to the think tank, I'd be all ears.

I propose that the technical discussion that has ensued since the initial "holy shit release" discussion ended be split into a topic in the appropriate forum

You know what? Yesterday I was having the exact same idea, I just didn't have time to do that. But I will do it now! Just give me some time to read through this thread again so I can select the appropriate posts and move them around. In the mean time, this will be temporarily locked. But don't panic, I'll be done in ~15 minutes or so.

EDIT: DONE. If you believe I moved some posts in a wrong way, feel free to notify me (or another mod/admin if I'm not online at that time). This thread is now about general discussion of X-treme, the other thread is for the engines.

Thanks for your time.

EDIT2: Tweaker merged the thread back. It is not meant to be split. Sorry.

...

1) I don't care about the leak, I just care about the fact that some dipshit decided to go under "anon." (No balls?)
2) I deleted all my code and stuff cause I've moved on with life, so no I don't have source for the viewer.
3) The person who probably leaked this was hxc.

I gave the kit to Senn, myself, and hxc.
I told hxc I didn't tell Senn about him having the kit and pulled off a bunch of lies about that (but Senn knew the whole time).
Each viewer I gave out had special tags to denote whose it was, the tag that is leaked is hxcs.

A couple of months after hxc got the kit, I got an e-mail from hxc saying how he got contacted by some hackers who were threatening to release the kit or some shit. And that they got the kit from giving someone (Senn) a virus.

They sent hxc the kit they had as proof.

Suspicious, I told hxc to check some files in the kit to see whose kit they stole.
(Obviously by telling him where the kit identifier tag was located he tried to mess with the tag before sending the "hacker's" kit to me to cover things up, but too bad for him that's not where the real tag was. I just made up a location.)

Anyways after a while, he then sent the actual kit to me to show that these hackers mean business.
The kit I got had hxc's tag.
So seeing the stupidity of hxc, I decided to play along with the bullshit cause I had time to waste.

Even if I didn't have the tags there to help me, if they really were hackers threatening to release it, why did the hackers give hxc their kit.
Durf, hxc sucks at making up convincing false propaganda.

Anyways to get back to the story, hxc wanted me to say to Senn that hxc has the kit now from the hackers (but Senn knew he had it), and hxc wanted to convince Senn to release the kit before the hackers do.

hxc talked to Senn trying to convince him to beat the hackers to the punch, Senn said "no let the hackers do it" or something like that.

hxc saw that his fake attempt at getting the kit released was a failure, so he gave up trying.
(Say hxc, why did it take those "imaginary" hackers 3 years to release that kit by now, if they were threatening to release it back then?)
Magically after that moment, hxc said he never heard from those hackers ever again.

So whenever hxc would pop up on IRC, I would fuck with him by saying, "So heard anything from the hackers yet?" to which he would give a "No...." response.

The whole time I knew but never reported it to Senn cause I thought hxc was a good kid who just had a fluke. Little did I know that the fucker was waiting for the perfect time to strike.

Also, in the kit is an image called "SCREEN_2.png" which comes from a corrupt TIFF file that I was able to restore.
Senn never decided to use it for the SXC. hxc foolishly included it in the leaked kit.

I wouldn't be surprised if that video where it sings "love ya" or something being released by kiroziki or whatever his name was, if it had to do with hxc someway, but that video had a bigger audience that was allowed to see it so it's not easy to track.

4) With that said, kindly put "hxc" in the readme file on the release. He deserves all the credit.
5) lol drama

Why would you delete all your code, even if you did move on with life >_>

Hey SANiC! Long time no see! what you been up to?
I feel pretty bad about all this happening, even though...in reality my feelings are somewhat contradictory to the previous comment,, (lets call it mixed since Leaks suck to the people they happen to)
You worked on something that's very interesting to this community,, and probably sworn to secrecy for some of its contents,
Yet you hold your end very well.
To bad about HXC, I had some respect for him.
Be careful, and good luck.

Cause I stopped caring? I don't know, take me back in time to Simon Wai's prototype.
I'd probably smash it up with no tears shed.
Different people have different mentalities.

I've been living life by not being a code monkey.
Don't feel bad about the leak, just laugh at the drama.

Well haha.

That worked out how I planned! not haha.

Ah well, fuck it. I did it because I'd rather not have a load of shit that some folk on here are interested in, which will never get out. I left it this long because I thought perhaps we'd get some other information, materials, the like from devs in that period. Never happened. I've not done anything actively sonic wise for what, 2 years? So release away it is. That fact sorta shows I'd lost enthusiasm with the community, and well, I have, as Sanik said on Sennient, go look at some trees, flying birds and stop obsessing over videogames. It was a waste of my time and it'll be a waste of yours.

I hid behind "anon" purely as a kindness in case some people ever want to talk to developers again and it might cause a fuckup in trust. Oh well. A legacy and a half eh.

As you were, children.

Roger that SANiK.

for me.....
I'd still have a sour taste left in my mouth if someone I trusted leaked something that I had worked hard on.
its just not right in my book is all.

However,on the other hand, I guess that I should be thanking HXC for this leak, with which vital knowledge can be harvested.
Guess I'm just as bad for wanting it. hahahah

You know what? Good for you. Hoarding prototype information is completely against what the sonic secrets scene is supposed to be about.

Mad, with all due respect, fuck off.

There are times when things need to be "hoarded" in order to ensure we get more in the end.

Are you saying Jesus is wrong? :V

Nah, I understand what you're saying, but at the same time, you ARE the one who leaked it, so I don't know why you're the first one to come forward and say that.
