Hey guys, I searched for a similar topic with music remixes but couldn't find one so I just made a new topic. While browsing youtube I found this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnqQdRk3awU
I think it sounds fantastic, possibly better than the original. So yeah just posted this here in case it makes someone's day just like it made mine :)

I much prefer the second video. The first one features great playing and all, but since it features more live-instruments, the fact that it is just a home-recording is more audible. Also NOT a fan of the guitar tone, it lacks punch and sharpness - may have to do with the recording, but is also a matter of mere settings and preference.

So, while playing-wise it's impressive, I'd rather listen to the original rendition or a non-live-remix.

Bass is overrated. I want to hear someone do Botanic Base and/or Lava Reef on a xylophone.

Sonic tunes are usually pretty fun to play on guitar/bass,I know a bunch myself.

I don't know about these. The entire main melody played on guitar kind of ruins it - it
just starts to sound generic and a bit rubbish. No doubt there's skill involved, but it just
doesn't fit the music at all.

Agreed, I don't think Sonic has ever really ever worked well with all-guitar.

Shit like this is what we really need for a Sonic 1 remake.

  13. Thanks guys, I'm probably going to stick a few of these on my iPod.

EDIT: I stumbled across this. I like, although that could be because I love Piano and Flying Battery Zone music.

Good god men, I just had an eargasm! The only thing I've heard that compares to this is the Metal Green Hill Zone played by Megadriver or something like that.

Surprise General Sonic Discussion post! Second one this year I think!

    Sky High Zone - SongeLeReveur

This... captures the song perfectly. He also does some other neat game covers. This one is just particularly obscure.

    EDIT:

I actually wanted to provide some criticism on the initial video. While the cover is decent, I'm disappointed by how the introduction is kind of screwed up. He seems to ignore some notes right at the start. My other problem is how the instrument balance seems off. What I would consider to be the melody is kind of just background noise in comparison to the rest of what is going on.

He's clearly a talented musician, I just believe he should edit slightly better and stick to the source material. I'm personally not a huge fan of guitar covers, myself (I much prefer piano arrangements), so take my opinions with a grain of salt, I suppose.

Pretty cool! I wasn't so sure when I saw it was a guitar. Most "good" guitar players don't know the meaning of separation between notes and instead rely on long drawen-out strums with lots of distortion. In other words, they end up ruining the songs because they lack true professionalism in my opinion. An example of this is in this video -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FlMQN4jHIM...feature=related

In the video I cited, he's clearly a good guitar player, but he has absolutely no note separation throughout the entire song. Annoying!!

However, I was pleasantly surprised with this one and felt this guy did really well. The only thing that really drives me nuts is that one note that everyone plays wrong in every remix and rendition of the song I've heard. It's an A, not an F!!

Okay, there's my musical ramblings. Good stuff! 4 out of 5 stars!

These are really awesome, great finds. That Flying Battery cover is really nice.
This is REALLY REALLY fucking good. I've been listening to this guy's stuff and it's really enjoyable stuff, he needs to do more Sonic music.

    EDIT:

    fgsdfgjdfkgsdflkf ;____;

    and

He managed to make this piece of shit song actually sound really good. Actually no the song still sucks but this guy doesn't.

This instantly brought tears to my eyes as I went back in time as a 5 year old playing Sonic 1 in Service Merchandise. The bassline did it the most.
