Sonic CD now out for everything except Nintendo consoles

Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by TimmiT, Aug 22, 2011.

  1. The one aspect of these though if it did ever become DLC would be the Music, That early 90's House Inspired and Synth sound just isn't around these days, ...unless of course there's unused tracks for Sonic CD lying in SEGA's vaults, which I would love to hear if they do exist.

Holy ffHOLY FUCKING SHIT THANK YOU SO MUCH!

EDIT: Did you happen to note the dates for those files, by any chance?

EDIT 2: Also, any hints towards a "R9" ever been planned?

So, wait, the antlion was also planned for Metallic Madness?

I suspect that it might have been planned to be "transferred" to R8 once R2 was scrapped.

The orange version seems to have been edited from the green one, even if part of the shading looks more simple.

You know that feeling when things start making more sense than ever?

This makes too much sense. I guess the antlion would be burrowed under the ground, and would pop up and nail you if you'd blindly run into the bottom of the bowl?

Probably, or perhaps it just went up and down waiting for the player to time the spindash accordingly.

This is the maximum it can be burrowed without making any pixels appear through the foreground "windows", by the way. Almost exactly at the color change line:

If they really wanted to, they could have put the antlion in Metallic Madness anyway despite R2 getting scrapped. The amount of time spent programming it most likely would have been negligible.

That said, finally seeing some genuine R2 content after all these years is amazing. Thanks for the share, Taxman!

It's really cool to see this kind of cut content, 20 years after the game's release. I wonder what else Sega have lying around...

And not to veer too off topic, but do we know if Stardust Speedway and Metallic Madness were switched around at some point? The ending has Stardust Speedway in the background when everything is collapsing and the level montage shows Metallic Madness before Stardust Speedway.

That enemy most likely moves up and down a tube.

    Staying sane.
I know it's a lot to ask but is there anything else in the files that we've missed or would there be a complication in doing so?

There's no tubes in Metallic Madness, though.EDIT: Nevermind, there are tubes in act 2. =P

Also, it might be supposed to appear like it's just the head of a bigger enemy, so I think the effect would be lost if it was put in a tube...

Not saying your idea is wrong, but We don't know what its supposed to have or not supposed to have, We can only assume things.
For me it looks like it required a tube lined with gear teeth that the gears fit into so that it can move up and down.
If there were tubes in R8 they could have been removed.

    Like this ?
It fits inside nice and snug like a bug.
If it were with-in this tube, I'm sure the glass would be in front, I pasted the bug on top to compare its size with the tube's size.

If sonic jumped in the tube while the bug was inside , perhaps it pushed sonic back out ? hmmm...??

Since R2 looks like it has a lot of underground enemies ,, perhaps like that R2/R8 Ant-eater Badnick with gears,
Maybe this lost boss was also a ground digger type as well?

Boss Model Based on unknown CD boss concept art.
No idea if it was an an earlier version of R2 boss than in the sprite.
I could imagine it chasing sonic threw some tunnels that it dug out or something though.

I'm also wondering how that boss would have worked. I'm envisioning a chase like Mushroom Hill and you have to chase after Robotnik and jump on him, but if you arc your jump too low you just hit his spring and get bounced back.

I asked Ohshima Naoto about these sprites awhile back when I first seen them, his reply was that he didn't remember anything about them since it was a project worked on so long ago.
Edit: he also denies R2 actually existed as well, his reply for that was something like: What levels are in the final game are all that were planned from the start.
But yeah, I feel he was giving me the runaround when I did my own private interview with him. ( was collecting information for my CD remix project)
