So apparently this went up for sale recently, and at first it seems like something awesome. A lost version of one of the worst games of all time, and it comes in a cool repro box with a t-shirt and comic?!

Well I decided to do some reading on this because something just seems weird with the incredibly high price tags and promises of it to go up in value.

First off right on the website there is something strange. "A SECOND GAME TO PLAY/TRADE" So this release is actually limited to 2,000 and not the 1,500 you advertise?

The guy selling these actually registered and posted. Besides the fact the guy seems like a dick apparently this game comes from an Action 52 prototype (I'm assuming is unreleased). So he edited this Action 52 prototype to remove the other games, and you pay $200 for a 2 level game. Wait 2 levels for $200-500??? Yeah supposedly that's all there is according to this video review:



It gets even better though! Apparently the gameplay in this prototype is almost identical to the game Ooze in the released version of Action 52.

I guess I'm pretty pissed about this because a buddy of mine was considering buying this, and I think I talked him out of it after I did some research. The fool was going to sell his CIB copy of Musha to get this! So is it just me or does this seem kind of scammy and like an asshole who found a Action 52 prototype is just trying to cash-in on the value of Cheetahmen 2.

...Shouldn't "collector's items" come from the official sources, or at least have something to do with them, in the first place? I mean, otherwise I'd be able to make my own "valuable" Sonic collector's items to display in my shelf.

I'd be fine if they were charging a fair amount of money and call it by its name, a fan work, but this is really absurd.



In any case, that's nothing compared to other stuff I've seen. There's even some people selling a Neo Geo homebrew game as if it was an official lost prototype, when in reality it was made from scratch, just based on a few prototype screenshots.


The key seems to be not telling the whole story and leaving the potential buyer to fill the gaps, while suggesting them that it's something legit and sought out by collectors... Which is more or less what I'd call a scam.



By the way, I find it kinda funny how people who make this kind of stuff like to use the seemingly more family friendly term "repros", when referring to the actual bootlegs they make, just to make things seem less illegal.

Anyone who's really willing to buy in to this garbage really should do their homework. To be honest, anyone with $200 to spare for a piece of crap like this really needs to either sort their priorities or give their money to the damn poor.

The whole concept of the Cheetahmen is poor. It's amatuer rubbish, and the only reason people are interested is beause of the hack job American dream fantasy story behind it. People talk as if it was a lovingly made product to give children entertainment in cheap form, when it was just a cheaply and poorly made set of games by all accounts, and a failed attempt at grabbing money from poor suckers who got a sneak at any of the merchandising which was clearly built to confuse anyone in to believing it was a real and popular product based on the success of TMNT.

Whilst that website is interesting and does give insight in to the back story behind the shitfest of unlicensed games, the actual product that's being sold is overpriced, poorly explained and an attempt again at refiring the Cheetahmen legacy which is basically to 'get moneyz fast from da stoopid'.

So to sum up, what do we know about this new version?
*It's the remainder of the unreleased Cheetahmen sequel which was found in a prototype.
*The rest of the proto games have been deleted, leaving only the Cheetahmen game intact, giving less value for money.
*It's a secondary source game- put on to a cart. These aren't THE ORIGINAL protos found. They're copies put on to carts. They're only as rare as that- not very. They can be remade at any time.
*The Cheetahmen game is a copy of other games from the Action 52 carts, just with sprite replacement.
*You get a holostickered official looking game, a comic and a T-Shirt. You lose $200 of your hard earned money for something with little value outside of rare insane retard collectors.

Lastly, the damn site hurts my eyes. Black backing and white font is stupid in the format they've done it. My vision was lined with an afterimage after sitting reading through it.

I found it an interesting read and a fascinating insight in to the minds of the stupid and desperate.
