Those are the other laying down sprites that are, in fact, unused.

First sprite is used. Its used when Sonic gets up from waiting as he lays down.

See here. Its one of those short second frames.

Edit: Call me Captian Obvious.

The two sprites are different. Look closely.

They look the same to me. You should note that the sprites are colored wrong in the first picture.

Fair enough.

Wrong enough to make Sonic's eyelids change from blue to peach? =\

Their actually peach in Sonic 1s title screen and the frame just before you start "waiting." As well as other places.

I think that changed after Sonic Adventure.

Yeah, but in S2 beta the those particular sprites had blue eyelids.

Actually, it was after Sonic Advance 2, but the point is, that's not what I'm talking about. Look closely at the sprite in question in both images. The one in the final game has peach eyelids, as opposed to the 'unused' animation, which has blue eyelids. The final frame could be a mere evolution of the original sprite.

Wern't those sprites found in the beta, but recolored with the right pallete? So the recoloring might not be right. =\

So, findings made using the debug mode aren't cool...

Ok, but I still want to post this:

This is Marble Garden Zone, Act 2.
It seems that there is a single ring floating in the upper left corner. Maybe they put it there to prevent a player to get the "Perfect" bonus?

Hm, sorry for the bump, I just wanted to make sure that we all know this (before I would post about it),

placing a Starpost to the right of the Egg Capsule at the "end" of Aquatic Ruin act 2...

I found this back in the day, also found a 'use' for the thing, on my actual cart; by pressing B and turning into Sonic, then pressing RIGHT, I'd zip at high speed out the left side of the screen, and the game would crash, hard (by which I mean even RESET wouldn't work) and often (not always) completely erase the SRAM. Good for erasing silly TT times with those glitched, 'secret' versions of Knuckles, but nought else.

Just a curio, I guess. I fucked with S3's debug more than I played the game. Is it already known how placing many surfing Sonic objects on the AIZ transition (when it is aflame) fucks the loading of AIZ2 tiles?

I don't think Sonic 3 has a perfect bonus, for many levels would be impossible to get a perfect in due to Knuckles' paths. This isn't unintentional impossible like the later levels in Sonic 2 though.

The perfect bonus was in Sonic 2 and was just forgoten. As sonic 3 was probably built of sonic 2 they wouldn't have removed it. It may even be in sonic 1.

I like how when people use Debug Mode in S3&K they go "OMG it's Dark Hyper Sonic" I use to just read some of the community's forums, and reading some of the Debug Mode findings just made me laugh. (Although the unknown lampost like sprite in Simon Wai's Protoype is pretty cool along with the surfing sonic and weird red spheres things in Sonic 3)

Also those unused waiting sprites look like in the Nick Arcade sprites when he get's bumped: http://www.s2beta.com/Comparisons

And I remember on Sonic Research Zone, they talk about a weird place on Sonic CD that's only accessible with Debug Mode, similar to the weird ring in Marble Garden, at the bottom of Act one of Stardust Speedway: http://www.randomsonicnet.org/srz/index.ph...&catagory=6

That site couldn't be more wrong...

This is a set of platfroms below the end of act one. There is NO WAY you could reach them without debug.

YES THERE IS. Try harder next time before trying to claim facts.

It is indeed possible to get down there without debug mode, you just have to know what you're doing.

And unless I've got some weird version of Sonic CD, those crystals definitely are in the foreground at the bottom of the levels.
