Hey, remember that thing called "Sonic Megamix"? I kinda do :|

This is sort of a renege of my "no talk" policy, maybe. I don't know

Anyway, I've been promoting my patreon lately, and as I disclosed Megamix as one of my for-free fan side-projects in the description, it's brought a little attention back to the game in general. People have expressed interest, asked for release dates, etc. In response, I decided to attempt a presentation in preparation for handling patron updates for anything I do. This includes a (silent) video and a long, descriptive blog post that explains it

(Be sure to read the blog post!)

    Some key points-

    - The changes from the earlier versions have bred what are now effectively two games: "Sonic 1 Megamix" (everything v4.0b and below) and "Sonic Megamix" (the "new levels" version with a ton more new content, officially shown only in video). The differences were vast enough to justify separation, and preserve "Sonic 1 Megamix" as a sort of "bonus" thing

    - I show off some tech aspects of my test process, and at the same time, display a little more of the new Sunny Shores than could be seen in the previously-released video ("Never Cancelled")

    - I display and explain what currently exists of a total engine rebuild, intended to replace the current version for better performance that will hopefully lead to some neat stuff

    - I announce that, in response to my current patrons being Sonic fans and the requests regarding Sonic Megamix, that I will start by bugfixing and releasing a standalone version of "Sonic 1 Megamix" (not Sonic Megamix), which will essentially be an updated/upgraded version of what was called "v4.0b". "Sonic Megamix" content is still very in-progress and needs to wait for later release

That's just the gist, though, so, please head on over to the blog post for full details. Share it if you like, as well as this tweet for twitter users

This doesn't mean constant, super-detailed updates or anything, but I might consider discussing it more in the future. "Sonic Megamix" relies on more people than just me, and is still a good way from completion

  2. HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

EDIT: Okay, and now for a more well-structured post... This is huge. As in, well, huge. Funny thing, the reason I replied like this crazy fanboy at first was purely because of the fact that I just yesterday played the unstable 2011-build, one thing I've decided hold off for a long time as the team stated they didn't really want people to play it. For some reason I only played Sunny Shores act 1 and called it quits but it's fitting to actually have some news so recently after that play. But if this simpleminded trial member is correct... This means there are now officially 2 versions of Megamix? Well shit, I love it, I'll play it.

Yeah, that was worth a trial post. Goodluck to you Stealth and ofcourse the rest of Team Megamix.

Back'd! Might not be able to afford it every month, but I've gotten years of entertainment out of your work, and I'd love for you to be able to devote more time to your own pursuits. Looking forward to the S1M bugfix!

Backed at $30 a month. The most I can afford at the moment. As far as I'm concerned; this is Stealth. The most important creator and contributor to the Sonic community. You're looking at decades worth of projects from Project Mettrix to Sonic Megamix to SonED - he's gone above and beyond to do far more than most. If this funding stream amounts to a point that allows Stealth creative freedom to work on whatever he wants including Sonic Megamix then that is a cause to which I am willing to contribute. I just hope that others on here are able and willing to contribute too. I'd love to see the pledge amount be boosted over the coming days. I've contributed to the limit of my capability. That said I'm moving soon to start a new job. That job pays far more than I currently receive at the moment. I hold the intention to increase my pledge around then.

So good luck Stealth. You have my support. Breaking the silence on Megamix like this is fantastic to see too. It'd be amazing if updates like this could continue.

    the void between universes.
not really any specific hack...too many to list.
holy feking shit I don't even

To be entirely honest, even after the leaked build I was worried (yes, worried, I surprisingly care about this thing) that the new stuffs and any hope of seeing them were gone for good.

Hooray this is a thing again I guess.

...yeah, I just now learned of this thing's revival so I don't really have much to say except this:
Good Game, Good Job, and most importantly, GOOD LUCK. Good-fucking-Luck. You'll need it with the scale this hack appears to be on, assuming it's even measurable anymore in comparison to most of the hacks seen these days.

I can't find it, but this reminded me of that Generations video from years ago where Sonic spends like five minutes trying to reach a spring. I won't spoil the ending for those who haven't seen it. Hopefully someone saved the link.

Lest we forget, Megamix set the bar for what hacks today try to achieve. It WILL deliver. Stealth isn't a dummy...

Not really, the bar on MegaMix 4.0 has been crossed many times since, and many people I hear say nowadays its more overrated than anything. But perhaps that will change when/if next release is out of the box!

I unfortunately agree. I mean its a fun game, don't get me wrong, but I've had just as much fun, if not more, with other hacks and fan-games.

I also do mean this with NO disrespect, but why is there always a money thing involved? There are PLENTY of other great hacks and fan-games being made that ask for no money and deliver so much more. I would LOVE to get donations to make Sonic Classic 2, but I don't ask because I have a job that takes care of that. That job also keeps me from working on it as much as I'd like. Just a question I'd like to bring up.

Did you read the patreon post? It's not just for Megamix, dude's got about five projects going and he's not going to get any of them done if he has to prioritize commercial work to stay alive. Megamix is particularly low priority right now since it isn't something he can sell later on. I'm sure he knew it was a long shot, but it was worth gauging just how bad people actually wanted this.

No skin off my back, he can just focus on our project instead and we'll make him the big bucks. It's a better game anyway ¯\_(?)_/¯
