I remember reading a post somewhere on this forum mentioning that the Sonic series hasn't really had a defining theme song, in the fact that it changes with every game since Sonic 3. With that in mind, theres a lot of people aren't happy with Sonic 4's theme. My question, is out of every single theme that the Sonic games have had over the years, which one theme do you think defines the Sonic the Hedgehog series?

The obvious choice for me, and I figure a lot of people, would be the orignal theme, used in Sonic 1 and 2, but that may or may not fit well with the newer games. I personally saw "His World" as a song that could be used as the theme for modern Sonic. Not necessarily for the lyrics, but more the intro, which has always felt very "Sonic" to me, and I think if they went and sped it up a bit and gave it that ol' Genesis feel, I think that would've been a sweet intro for Sonic 4.

Well, if you want to encompass the Sonic series as a whole, "Sonic, You Can Do Anything" would pretty much be his theme, through it would require some lyric-tweaking so as to not sound so cheesy or as heavily tied to Sonic CD's plot.

However, the tune itself is a pretty good representation of the series as a whole.

  3. I would disagree about His World. I detest that song.

As for a theme, I would suggest the end-of-level jingle that's been in tons of games since Sonic 3. I count Sonic 3(&K), SA1, SA2, Heroes, 2006, Brawl, etc. I'm sure I missed some.

After that, I would say either of the Sonic CD themes or Open Your Heart.

Live and Learn is what I think of whenever I think Sonic.

Although the end of level theme used in most theme is used more than any other theme, I guess that jingle can be associated with Sonic.

Toot toot Sonic warrior for me from the Japanese version of Sonic CD.
The one in the Saturn version of Sonic 3D is close though and so is Sonic 3's.

It'll always be the Title / Invinvibility / Continue / etc theme from Sonic 1 and 2, for me.

Although the theme song from SatAM is pretty well-suited, too.

When I think of Sonic, I think of the original theme from Sonic 1. It just fits for the entire franchise, IMO.

  9. I don't know.
A lot of Sonic's themes have been good.
If not His World, then I think "Solaris Phase II" would be a good peice of music. Its His Worlds theme, but without the sometimes iffy lyrics.
The melody is great. I personally love both the Song and Solaris Phase II.

Sonic 1. That's the most memorable for me. With lyrics, probably You Can Do Anything (albeit it needs to be changed now), Open Your Heart and It Doesn't Matter.

My ideal Sonic theme would be an orchestrated version of You Can Do Anything. (Sonic CD's title screen) or the original Sonic 1/2 theme. I prefer the first choice a lot more though since it's a fascinating and catchy tune altogether.

Sonic 1 & 2. It was also featured in Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog and even in Sonic Advance 1, so that makes it the "most official Sonic theme", I guess.

The original Sonic The Hedgehog theme. Why they can't just resolve the matter with Dreams Come True or whatever is beyond me. They have the money and the power. I'm sure if Michael Jackson could have purchased the entire Beatles library, that SEGA can aquire a song which is already affiliated with their products. It's Sonic's theme for christ sake.

I did like hearing it in Sonic Advance. That was pretty cool.

Sonic 4's theme is also pretty awesome. As was Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckle's themes. I also like the Crush 40 themes, and most of the new styled music, but t's a shame that Sonic's music varies so much. It destroys the feel of continuity and familiarity.

Geez, that's a hard question. Sonic has changed so much over the years it's way too hard to pick one defining song. I think that 'Endless Possibilities' fits Sonic really well but is better suited to some of the newer games than the older ones. For the Mega-Drive games I would probably choose one of the vocal tracks from Sonic CD. And then there's the Japanese theme of Sonic X; Sonic Drive. It's a great song and it suits the show perfectly!

For me it's Brand-New World from the Sonic the Hedgehog Remix album. Listen to it and see why.

Because just getting a different theme is cheaper, plain and simple.

A game like Sonic 4, needs to have the original theme. Pretty much anyone who was around in the ninties would hear that theme and immediately associate it with Sonic. It wouldn't, however fit with the 3D games. Themes like Open Your Heart and Live and Learn were awsome, and I love Sonic Boom! (There I said it), but if they were going to have a theme that was used consistently, it would have to be something original. Something catchy, fast paced and more of the rock/pop. The orchestral themes annoy me, something about them sounds a little too OMG EPIC SERIOUSNAS!

SEGA, get me to write a theme, infact, do all the music. I need the money.

Honestly, when it comes to the 3D games, whatever is Sonic's theme in that game, is pretty much his theme to me. I pretty much like almost all them though so far. The 2D games...you got me there. I guess it would be the Green Hill Zone since that Zone has appeared more than once, like how Mario's "theme" is the Overworld in Super Mario Bros.

    Doing absolutely nothing
Title theme from Sonic 1 and 2 will always be the definite Sonic theme for me. AoSth's theme is in 2nd place.
