You could reset SMPS and bring it to a well known state. You already know it works, if you reset the driver then the chances of it breaking are near null =P (unless the hardware died, then you're fucked either way)
I'd say I didn't do half bad. My only ones left to perfect are SY1 (My only bronze), LZ2 (Cannot figure out how to get less than 6), and SB2+3.
So much time. So much frustration. So many buttons. So many save states. So many death threats. So much fun in the end. So fucking good. Cinossu, dear Mister Marc, I will never forgive you. Spoiler Also, the alternate song in the overworld when having everything perfected is rather nice.
Ok, need to lay it down here, LZ2 is the only act I didn't get a perfect in 100% legitimate ways, at least not the way it was intended. I got lucky and something that would normally trigger a message was ignored (though I don't remember what it was), so I had just the right amount of points to get a perfect. However, that probably was a one in a hundred years thing and you shouldn't count on it ever happening again. Also, either Marc made a mistake and made the perfect bar on that level too low, or he expect us to play as god, because I didn't find any way to get less than these 6 points, resulting into only a gold rank, and I even checked out this handsome guide: Red Spring Monitor Monitor Contents Button behind Monitor Button Button FFS BUTTONS ARGH FBJASDBFASDFASDASD As for the other two acts: LZ1 contains a hidden platform that leads you to a shortcut (and when I say hidden, I mean holy fuck hidden). Demonstration video by nineko. LZ3 requires you to take the lowest path, you know, the one with the tunnel and the rods to hang on. Check out map here. Bottom line, LZ2 is impossible without exploits or cheats.
Funny...I had 6 triggers and got gold. Maybe I glitched something to get a "ghost trigger" of sorts. I'll try it again here soon.
I think you didn't fully understand what I was trying to say. I meant, these 6 points are the least legitimate points you can get in this act and it will still only give you a gold rank. That's at least my theory. Cinossu, come in here and tell us what we're doing wrong.
It is, but even with save states this game is hard as shit. And without them, it'd be impossible to get a perfect in every act. So, if Marc adds the "NO WAY!" screen when using save states, like he did with Sonic 1 @ SAGE, nobody will play it, because of being simply impossible. EDIT: Remember when I said LZ2 is impossible without cheats or exploits? I was right, as once again demonstrated by nineko:
Welp, guess what. That is a bug. I have debug controls set up for when I was testing, and it seems I nudged the "reset messages to 0" button by accident after the spring. (I have the exact savestate I used mid-level testing still, and it shows it.) Whops. It'll be fixed in v1.2, don't worry people. :U Not long to wait now.
You're right, I misunderstood your post. Glad to see I'm not the only one having trouble there. Can't wait for v1.2. I'm assuming the SRAM will carry over?
This isn't as hard as I thought. Of course there's the expected way to do it, and the not so clever but easier way to do it. Spoiler I've never been so happy to die in a sonic game
Of course. As I said, though, times aren't saved due to a bug as well, so all times will be set at 30 minutes to start. That's a bug also. :U It's not meant to reset the message count.
Why is there no message for air bubbles? People should be encouraged to move faster through the water :specialed:
And looking into the problem, the illegal instruction error seems to have been caused by me constantly quitting the level whenever I make a mistake. I then tried going through it with savestates instead of exiting the level and it doesn't crash at the end of the act (and just to mention, it also crashed when I tried to beat it in Kega Fusion). Hope this helps in fixing the problem.
I was going to suggest a Generations mod similar to this where the game would insist on paushing to load/save on every single thing imaginable, then I remembered the PS3/Xbox versions are essentially already that. p.s. this hack is going to be the death of me.
Late to the party, but still... Cinossu, this is awesome :D! I have been playing for a while and I don't want to hear that 1up jingle again for the rest of my life. Btw, I'm more hyped at the Retro Channel Screen though :P...I miss to upload speedruns and compare my times with people on #Retro :v:
