Sonic 1 and 2 getting the Sonic CD treatment by Taxman and Stealth

  3. I really like the art on Egg Gauntlet even if it's not polished/complete

    I think I can speak for everyone when I say I'd love for SEGA to greenlight an official "remix" game where the team has access to all of the Genesis-era assets and creates original levels/bosses

    Unfortunately it will only ever exist in my dreams =P

    I don't remember the exact details, but from what I've heard HPZ is impossible to port to the ROM.

    Yes I know that... BUT I mean Egg Gauntlet in this incarnation... I really like it.

    AND I wonder why porting HPZ would be deemed impossible??? Could it be the number of tiles/chunks... etc?
    Anything to do with any objects? Or the number of them?

    Or could it have to do with the level's size...

    The way to access it perhaps? SBZ2 and 3 had it done where accessing a level through exiting the boundary at a certain coordinate was possible... that said, the re-release actually completely messes with the layout when you fall into the area. BUT even that can be possible in the engine to some degree...

    From my point of view, it seems technically possible. Even the level size or tiles/chunks number isn't an excuse. Do you have some details on this?

    I decided to try the 3.0.9 version now, and even though Egg Gauntlet doesn't work on it anymore (makes the engine crash or go into an infinite loop of loading), there is a new stage called Proto Palace. Yes, it seems to be a short port of the original Hidden Palace:

    Oh man, I totally forgot that was in there :v: Before the new HPZ design was started the old unfinished layout was imported as a test.

    I'm surprised no-one found the cheat code for that: After enabling debug mode in the level select, play 03,03,03,0B,10,10,10,04 and select HPZ

    How the hell would anyone guest that cheat code? To me it's a code that wouldn't be found without brute force.

    Can you put in a similar code that switches which track is played in the new Hidden Palace? I had a nice nostalgia blast playing that level because of the music

    Well 03 is Mystic Ruins 2p, 10 is ye ol Hidden Palace, and 0B and 04 sounds like "before," so I'm thinking it means something along the lines of "The hidden palace before the new one"

    By looking at the game data. They're all defined in Bytecode/LSelect.bin. The reason nobody found it is probably because nobody looked.
    Back when the game was first released, I did look and confirmed earlier in this thread that there were no hidden codes. The code did not exist in the first release, and personally I didn't expect anything to change in subsequent updates which is why I didn't look. (And it doesn't seem like anyone else is interested in looking at these) The layout for the prototype HPZ was in the original release as HPZ Act 2, but the only way you could access it was the same as Egg Gauntlet... by modifying the RSDK file or attaching a debugger.

    The current iOS release appears to have the following codes:
    01 09 09 02 01 01 02 04
    04 01 02 06
    01 01 02 04
    00 00 00
    03 03 03 0B 10 10 10 04
    So nothing else as far as level select codes at this time. There's nothing stopping anyone else from looking at, just extract your copy of the game and use the tools to unpack the rsdk.

    Edit: There doesn't seem to be any new codes in Sonic 1's level select. January's update to Sonic CD was awesome, but that will go into the Sonic CD thread. (R2 & R9)
