Gave the Beta a Small Playthrough, and its looking great. Also, the new EHZ Art is simply awesome.

nineko, you can remove the mirror if you want. The first post had a BBCode error leading to the wrong URL, and that's now fixed.

I felt like I was playing a pinball game instead of a Sonic game, but it's all good. Very clever and insane design!

The only problem I had was with the overworld. I kept jumping into the rings and having to replay the zones over again. I'd say, either change the position of the rings or make a cancel combo to exit a zone and return to the overworld (I'm sure the latter is out of the question, but I know nothing about hacking and whatnot).

Wow the new art definitely has that "Official Sonic Level Art" feel to it, however the background/cave bit kinda' sticks out a bit because of the "Cut-off" lines since it keeps going from a light shade to a Dark shade, to a light shade and so on. Maybe small rocks, such has the ones in Hidden Palace (Sonic 2 Beta) would fit? It would vary from the simple shapes of the ground underneath the grass.

I gave the beta a shot, and I must say that this has A LOT of potential. I love the choice of music (esp.Emerald Hill Zone's Music), and the layout and game play. I like the overworld and the layout for the overworld as well as the actual levels. I don't think collecting little rings are the way to go, however. If you could port a giant ring, to take place of the little rings, I won't accidentally collect one, and have to redo the level.

After playing with such great pallettes, I'm not sure where the new EHZ art is going, but I'm pretty sure it'll still be great.

Eh... the foreground tiles are too distracting and I don't like how the background stays in place the whole time.

It's a nice start, but it could use some work, in my opinion. I'd draw some new grass and do a completely original pattern for the ground. Background is extremely well put together for what it is, though, so nice job with that. :colbert:

Truly awesome level art, besides the grass, and the background that stayed in one spot, and the clouds as well. Overall, I think it is a great start.

I like. It needs some work, but it looks like it's shaping out well.

Also, are "Sonic 2 Retro Remix" and "Palmtree Grove" official? They just sound... kinda bland.

I started reworking on the grass as well as the wall tiles and I'd like opinions of comments of what you think, whether it should stay or not.

Tons better, though you should seriously smooth out the grass on the slopes.

  12. That Columns III tune is incorrectly ported. You need to set the pointer of one of the FM Channels (Dunno which one... FM5 maybe?) 2 bytes before that.

    Other than that: Fucking Awesome

    What he said.
Also, you might want to mirror those checkered blocks from Isolated Island (that's where they're from, right?), because right now the light source is inconsistent.

Setting FM5 back 2 bytes starts it in the middle of gibberish and serves to break the track later. Setting any other track back 2 bytes would start the track in the middle of the F6 flag from the previous track. No go.
...and yes I'm aware you had and fixed this problem before, but it seems our ports are different somehow since your idea isn't working...

Not that it matters, as that tune was just a leftover from when I worked on Pixel Perfect. Track 03 would've played during Marble Zone in Sonic 1, which was turned into a desert for Pixel Perfect. The track'll be replaced with something more fitting when the time comes to use it in a level.

Also, for those who didn't like the Race to Win import I did earlier, I've already imported a new tune to replace it. The notation's perfect; I just suck balls at voicing, so we'll see if I can get it sounding okay by the next release.

I actually planned on removing those and replacing them with something else.

I get dizzy from Sonic 2's special stages, the only other thing that makes me motion sick is the Marathon games.

New video, yay! This video shows off the latest Emerald Hill art and chunks, as well as some music changes.

As a side note, why must Windows Movie Maker be so easy to use, yet so awful? It loves to paint all of my videos red. :argh:

Why thank you for reminding me to finish the Race to Win port I was working on, because that sounds absolutely horrid.

As does all the music actually. Really need some better voices there.

Save for the music, every single bit of that was absolutely phenomenal. I do like the usage of NiGHTS music in the second act, though—too bad it was brought down by bad voices and such a weak percussion. ;)

Superb work, and I'm looking forward to seeing more! :argh:
