The only thing I'm not 100% on with Evan is the way he (she?) Draws mouths. I can't put my finger on it but I get a lot of DreamWorks face vibes. But overall it's great. Good issue, I like Tangle and it's very interesting that they made Blaze a part of this as early as they did (Archie was very slow at adapting new characters, Shadow, Blaze, Rouge, Omega, Big, and Cream were uses sparingly for the longest time).

It's still strange in a way. The writer's the same and there's a lot of staff overlap but this does feel unique to Archie so far. I'm glad it's found its own identity

Picked it up this afternoon. Good read. I think I like this art the best, too.

[inlinespoiler]Eggman's totally trying to pull a fast one on Sonic. Also looking forward to the Shadow fight.[/inlinespoiler]

He could be pulling a StC Online: [inlinespoiler]either trick Sonic into assaulting him though hints dropped that he does remember, but feign otherwise to the villagers, or cause Sonic to be chased off by the people when Mr. Tinker 'begins' to recall his past due to Sonic's presence and might cost the village a great community member. Either way, Sonic would come out smelling less than rosy.[/inlinespoiler]

Slice of life visual novel, coming soon...?
This issue was cool, though I'm getting kinda tired of the obligatory Sonic vs Shadow fight we seem to be getting with every Sonic related thing nowadays.
I mean, what's the point since he's not evil anymore ?

I'm there with ya, but I'm also tired of:

Sonic meets up with friend. -> Village being attacked. -> "Let's team up!" -> Bots get beat. -> "Wow, these attacks seem more coordinated lately." -> Back of Egg Chair shot -> "Curses, foiled again!"

I get that this issue had something slightly new with Eggman/Tinkerer being introduced, but god damn all five issues have been pretty copy-fucking-paste. I also hate that the artist/panelist from the first issue is back. The blue background is awful and they have no clue how to lay out panels. (Just looked up who it was. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TRACY? Holy hell!)

To be fair, this one had the back of the chair shot establishing that they weren't expecting Sonic that time, wondering if they'd stumbled on a settlement or if Sonic was onto them, so we could be close to the end of Mysteregg there.

Issue 6 been out for a while now.

So, who want to bet the final boss that Super Sonic will face is Super Metal Overlord powered by the Master Emerald at issue 12?

Still trying to work out this two worlds thing SEGA claim is the canon. As far as I can tell, 'Sonic's World' has always been Earth in the classics and Adventure games, right up until the Modern incarnation. What doesn't help is the comics' constant references to past events without ever mentioning any sort of transition that resulted in them on another world. You'd think that would be notable...

Are you sure you're not just confusing that for "Modern dimension vs. classic dimension?" That's been pretty well established by now.

That's also a bunch of crap, in my honest opinion.

"Enjoy your future, it's gonna be great!" How would Modern Sonic know if they weren't the same Sonic? And why would they even suspect him of being from another dimension when conclusion was "we've travelled through time and space!"

How was he supposed to know that the time-travel shenanigans would split the timeline?

Although I'm just gonna drop it because I don't feel like overthinking this crap right now.

I think back at the Sonic Boom convention of 2012, Iizuka stated in a Q&A that each of the Sonic games have their own Canon; this give the writers a leeway to write whatever stories they want, as long as the characters stay in character.

Seeing that Ian Flynn making this an non game sequel to Forces, and that Forces and Mania took place in different continuities (only linked by the Phantom Ruby itself), he have no choice but to exclude the classic Characters altogether in order to avoid confusion to those who are new to the series.

Not to derail the topic as I touched on this in a different thread, but I'm pretty sure it's just not a thing as this point, despite SEGA or Iizuka saying otherwise - we've just never seen anything that truly touches on such a big lore-altering plot point in-game. (and you'd think it would have been brought up in Gens/Forces if it were there) Especially one that would alter the scope of almost every previous title from Adventure to Unleashed.
I would simply just stick with what the core games have established, which is that there's clearly one diverse world full of Animals, Humans and Chaos Emeralds. The closest we've seen to any reference is the "Sonic's World" comments made by Eggman in Lost World and Colours, but I normally point out that was only in the English scripts. The Japanese script doesn't use this at all and stays consistent with the other titles.

In other words, it's weak-ass canon, and no fan-fiction from Iizuka will change that without some serious rebooting. He can throw down with me in the ring if he wants to change my mind :v:

Speaking of which, Ian does have interest in writing scenario for SEGA's Sonic Games, but have to be hired by them first.
