Just a quick question really, but I thought it deserved it's own topic.

I've only just come to notice that KEGA is not running a solid 60fps. It keeps stuttering between 55-60fps. Now I have a 6700k i7 CPU, 1070gtx GPU and 64gb RAM, so my PC isn't the issue. I have a feeling Windows 10 is though. I just tried recording a video (as you know, I do YouTube) and today, the frames went down to around 50fps. Has a new update suddenly killed KEGA? I just went to Regen and it's a solid 60fps there.

This isn't more of a "how do I fix this" question. It's a "has anyone experienced this themselves and have found a fix"?

  2. I had issues with Regen and Windows 10. I honestly have no idea--I ran sfc and chkdsk and the other utility name that is escaping my mind right now with no success...I had to end up formatting :v:

I can help you on that guys. Rightclick KEGA and click Properties, then go to Compatibility. Change the Compatibility Mode to Window XP (Service Pack 3). Your frame rate should be at 60fps.
Yeah you're not alone on this everyone, I too was dealing with this BS for quite some times now and it's because of Window 10. I highly recommend to remove any filters you're using as some are not good while running the emulator on Window 10.
And forgot to mentioned that it was cause by a certain update from Windows 10, don't remember what it was but yeah. I experienced it too btw. It was never like this on my old PC but this new laptop that came with Windows 10 I got like a year and a half ago does that.

Hm, I'll give that a try when I get back from work, but honestly, I don't see that working. I've already tried compatibility mode with Win7 (didn't even think to try with XP) and that didn't help. I'll come back with the results in a few hours.

I feel really stupid. Looking at my previous videos of me doing Sonic hacks, none of them are solid 60fps. They're near enough, so I guess that's why no one ever mentioned about it or even I didn't notice too much (I just thought it was the Mega Drive in general not keeping up). But after last night with it being terrible, I then went back to trying Regen and seeing it silky smooth.... *sigh*... maybe I'm being too much of a perfectionist with my videos... at least all the fan games are fluid

Just throwing out ideas, you may need to disable the record feature in the Xbox app. Though if that's the case, it'd be weird that it's not affecting Regen.

I've tried the XP compatibility and removed the XBOX stuff (I swear I already did that). It's still having the FPS issue, although it does look like it's tamed a bit.

What version of KEGA are you using atm? Is it the latest?

    Yes. 3.64

I also tried the "low fpx fix for fullscreen". I know the clue is in the name, but I wondered if that would fix it being windowed... it doesn't.

I'm just noticing a lot of fan games I recorded also struggles to obtain 60fps, like Sonic Time Twisted for example. This is definitely a Windows 10 issue... googling right now!

I have found that fiddling with the "Fusion.ini" file seems to help.

    Code (Text):
    1. ForceCompatibleGFX=1
    2. CompatibleGFXOpt=1
    3. EnhancedGFXOpt=1
Having these three set to 1 keeps it at a nice 60 on mine, sometimes it goes to 58, but generally stays at 60. Without it, it drips to 54, 51, 50, sometimes 60.

There are of course, other settings in there you can play with, which are not accessible from the in-emulator menu.

One thing I ended up doing on a Win8 machine I had that ran it slow was go to Options -> Use Alternate Timing.

This is just a tiny hunch, but maybe try messing with the gaming settings of Win10? Turning off Game Bar (which is generally enabled as a hotkey even if your system doesn't meet the requirements for Game DVR or broadcasting), toggling Game Mode on or off, that kind of thing. It could be that one of those added features are hooking into Kega and dragging its performance down.

EDIT: Oh, damn it. Someone already suggested that. Sorry, I'm half-asleep at the moment [IMG]

    Trying to be useful somehow.
I remember my brother in law having problems with kega on W10, I don't know if that's the fps fix you mention, but just in case... this patch solved it. And hey, he runs an A6.

I've had to use that fix, but I've recently made the switch to RetroArch and holy hell I love the Genesis Plus GX core. I'd like to say it's more accurate than Fusion and is actually being updated unlike Fusion (which I think Steve Snake has left for dead :c) and in my opinion is worth the trouble of configuring copmletely to your liking.

Thanks for all of your suggestions so far, guys. Unfortunately, it's still losing frames. Although I've now come to the conclusion that it's not KEGA itself; it's Windows 10 in general. Seems so many applications like Sonic fan games and etc are also suffering the same problem (like this fan game for example. I never realised before because I use to have a 144Hz monitor a while back and when I went back to 60Hz... well, it's harder to tell if it's actually going 60Hz or not because I'm not familiar with it anymore). None of this use to be this back back when I had Windows 7.

I've got rid of all the XBOX services, and looking online to see what other unnecessary services I can get rid of. It seems some games (including KEGA) work fine for a while then eventually start losing frames, and eventually it can go back to normal again. I'll keep experimenting and will come back if I find the culprit (if any).

    Obligatory question incoming:
What exactly does not run on Windows 7 so you downgraded to 10?

Thought you upgraded from 7 to 10, unless I'm missing something.

He's likely sarcastically expressing the common opinion many have that Windows 7 is superior to Windows 10, and that upgrading to 10 is considered a downgrade rather than an upgrade. It's more of an offtopic thing though, and probably one of those discussions that could lead to arguements.

The new PC I bought came with W10 already installed on it. My old laptop that I sold had Windows 7 (which got updated to W10 as well without warning).

Let me guess: the Get Windows 10 function ran without your consent. Yeah... that button was annoying.

As much as I 100% agree with the Windows 10 bashing, let's try and keep this on topic.
