Well, fuck it. I've given my final tree on this page, and I'm fed up with the idiots who honestly think the trunk is the fucking problem. The trunk was easy as shit and was over with. The chequered pattern was a cute addition, but fuck this is getting far too ridiculous. A SERIES OF ROTATING OCTAGONAL PRISMS. The very fact that this even had a chance of being brought up, boggles my mind to a boiling point. Isn't there enough work out there? We're not making Sonic 4...5, we're making Sonic 2 HD. We need to stick to the material handed to us. A simple. cylindrical. tree. How can this possibly be hard?

I'll be working on the escalator-ish thing again, and it's somehow being less of a bitch than you people are.

You want a tree? Here's your stinkin' tree. It's real rough and not meant to be a final of anything, but it has a point. And that is to give the damn thing some warm shadows. Don't just make it a darker shade of green, and the change in value on the tree shouldn't be so wide a range, otherwise it looks like shiny Play-Doh. That's why the edges are brownish-red. I did the same for the trunk. Someone had a good idea with the checkers and bark and shit, so I added bumps on the side so it doesn't look quite so sterile. Just throwing this out there. Whatever else you need help on, I will try and lend a hand. Let's turn this motherfucker OUT.

Edit: So Gambit showed me this cool trunk design and I'm totally sold on it. Again, concept. Make of it what you will. The lines of his design are shown on the right.

Also working on the ro-- no wait test-object already made a complete rock. No two ways about it, I found that keeping it blue and shades of blue was very monochromatic and boring, so I tried sprucing it up with some brown. The contrast in value could be a little more than what it is now, though.

Aaaand the dividey door thingy.

In response to my concept of mine that Ross posted up there, there will probably be a couple other concepts that crop up from us in the near future. I might make a variant of that one as well.

I need to work on the shading a little bit but obviously the twisted vine idea wasn't working so I tried to bring it back its its roots. (pun intended)
I tried to give the platform a bit of perspective so it almost pops out at you.

LOL At least there's still a vibe of humour lurking in these forums.

That blue platform with vines and the tree art by Ross Irving totally need to make it into StH2HD.

What I'm gleaning from these last few posts in this thread, you guys don't think people should be open to experimenting and drawing up their own concepts. And if someone does, they should get made fun of. Does this create a good creative environment for people to work in?

Is this a joke too because I don't know if I should be laughing.

Ross-Irving was maybe 1/4 serious. At least that is the impression I got from his post and it made me smile so I just wanted to return the favor to others with my joke post.
I wasn't making fun at all. I love his artwork. No sarcasm there. <- Or there.

It put a smile on my face.

And I wasn't trying to to take the piss either Gambit. I saw MaximusDM post as what he has just described it.

I thought it was a 100% joke post because of the line "You want a tree? Here's your stinkin' tree." After test-object's rant about people bitching about tree art, I would be absolutely shocked if Irving was extremely serious in that post.

Holy shit, you people are fucking disgusting. Ross actually had some decent input and suggestions and W.A.C, Maximums, Steveswede and Nineko are fucking laughing because it was presented in a concept stage. This is absolutely fucking insulting.

The atmosphere in this thread is a fucking joke.

Ok whoa. Are you joking or is this serious business?
Because honestly, I am COMPLETELY offended if you, Gambit or anyone else thinks I was poking fun at Ross-Irving or the idea of concept art or the ideas proposed. I was just rolling with the energy he brought with his post. This is ridiculous. I don't need to defend myself. Ban me forever I don't care. If that will make you feel better and make you feel like you won.
Delete this post, your post and lets all just pretend this whole thing never existed. Because Chimpo, you are starting an off topic flame war by taking his clearly nonchalant post as the gospel.
My last post was sincere. And if you can't trust my word. Then ban me.

I just want to express the great extent of my concurrence with this. also:

as much as I love the idea of the tree having a more organic look (especially the 'ring' near the bottom), unless there's an array of different tree palette objects which are chosen at random to be placed in the HTZ levels, it might look a little weird having that same conspicuous tree everywhere. as far as the warmness of the colors go,...well I just don't see HTZ as a level with warm hues; the sky is a blue-to-semi-turquoise-blue, and it's in the mountains not during a sunset...sooooo....yeah that's it. ^^
