Anyone remember...?

Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by Irixion, Jan 14, 2012.

  1. Anyone remember RealOne Arcade? This was back when Real Player was known as Real One player—They had an Arcade downloadable app, that let you download and play games. This was actually where I first stumbled upon Sonic The Hedgehog 2, I remember them having S1, S2, S3, SK and Sonic Spinball all as games that you could buy. One thing that I distinctly remember about these was that all music and SFX generated were an octave higher than their Genesis counterparts. Anyone else share any memories? There isn't mention of this on the wiki; it's as if RealOne Arcade vanished off the face of the planet :S. This would have been around 2002-2003.

I remember Real One Arcade. I downloaded quite a few of the Genesis demos that they had and wasn't impressed with a lot of them. Hell, I may even have the original demos that I downloaded on my old PC. I don't know if they'd be good for anything now other than picking them apart.

I remember this too. This was back before my pals and I knew about emulators, so we spent quite a lot of time on them. One of my friends discovered how to make the demos last forever, too. Aside from the Sonic games, we also played a lot of Toejam and Earl.

We discovered proper emulators later that year, so we stopped using RealOne arcade.

  4. I'd sure love to have any of the Sonic demos again. My very first memories of the blue blur, would be much obliged!

Ahhhh, I do remember these. The way the descriptions were worded made me think at the time that these were remakes with new content. How disappointing.

I remember this, it was just a very bad genesis emulator running ROMs identical to the ones we have already.

  7. What of the music though? That's like the only thing I remember about them being unique, I'd sure love to hear/see/play them again just for old time's sake :(

    Jack shit.
I remember this too. Had S1-K and Toejam & earl and you were given an hour of free play before they stopped you and you had to buy. Fun times.

Though I was able to beat Sonic 2 in under an hour. :v:

I remember this all to well. I stumbled upon this entirely on accident. Had a MLB disc from a POST cereal box, that had digital trading cards. Included, as advertised, was Real One Player... which sucked, but for me at that time period... it was ok to use. I didn't have much music anyhow...

I actually looked inside the folder on the CD out of curiousity one day, and stumbled upon Real One Arcade... for some reason, it was never advertised on the CD, the AutoPlay program, the original cereal box... nothing... Kinda strange, but I tried it out. Was happy to find that you could download Sonic onto the PC with it... of course, this was years before I discovered emulators... I spent most of this time first learning how to use Game Maker, as well as fiddling around with Sonic & Knuckles Collection PC. Looking back, Real One Arcade ports of Sonic sucked ass... Oh, BTW it wasn't very hard to work around the 1-hour demo bullshit... Damn, I was 11-12 at the time, and I figured it out.

For those wondering, I have checked out Real One Arcade recently (within the past year) and they no longer carry SEGA games anymore... their overall selection is shit compared to the days of old... then again, thier game quality was also shit so it doesn't matter.

  10. I remember they had Zax the Alien hunter and Swarm, both of which I don't think they offer or have anymore, classics imo. I don't see what the problem with their emulation was though. Does anyone have any old Genesis titles installed on their machines from Real One Arcade? Mind taking a video? I'm really just...curious about the sound :s

    I haven't heard of RealOne Arcade since I was 12-13. :v:

Sonic 1 was playable in that service, but I don't remember having a blast with it either.

Didn't they have Knuckles' Chaotix on the service? I vaguely remember seeing it advertised.

I remember it, but I think I discovered emulators right around then... And I have no memory of Knuckles' Chaotix being on it.

Perhaps you're confusing this with GameTap?

I remember doing a lot of betatesting for them, but I don't think they ever fixed the many issues I had found in the application itself.

Also, they said Sonic 3D Blast was going to be compatible with trackball devices, but I don't think they ever did such a thing in the end.
