Is that supposed to be Chemical Plant? I don't like it all that much... it looks like something right out of Sonic Colors or Unleashed, which isn't something I'd expect from something trying to hark back to the more classic environments. Or is this an original level? In any case, I'm hoping you plan on doing something far more complex with the background; it feels kind of dull at the moment.
The art style is very good, more background details is needed to give the scene more depth but they are WIP screenshots so I assume you will do this anyway, judging by the stage designs in the demo. Keep up the good work.
MAN! CHEMICAL PLANT, FINALLY!!! (But I'm missing the background there, what are those gears doing there? Well, those turbines on the first shot are kinda the Plant's style XD) Anyways, I've read the interview... Hey, Mercury, you said you would be working in a brand new Sonic game as soon as you're finished with SFR, right? Well, let's focus on Fan Remix for now, when this is done I'll tell you what I want to. Erm, don't mean to be rude or anything, it's just that this isn't the topic or even the time for discussing ideas.
That is so awesome! It reminds me a bit of the Fox Chemical Factory level in Batman for Genesis and SNES - which makes sense, because it is a chemical plant after all. I kind of always wondered - if South Island is inhabited by animals, do they live in the skyscrapers in the background of CPZ and CNZ?
I hope that isn't meant to be Chemical Plant. Logically, large gears like that wouldn't be in a plant for chemicals, it looks more like it could be Metropolis, or of course, an original level. Either way, it does look nice, but not as Chemical Plant. What I really want to see is a space level EDIT - Ninja'd by Dalek. I should pay more attention...
My mind blew when I noticed it was Chemical Plant Zone. It does have a Colors vibe though, not a bad thing! I also like how the level is very organized looking. Not much else to say yet.
Well shit, looks like I don't know what I'm talking about. I hope we don't see too much more Sonic 2 in the final project.
I like the design, the lighting and shadows and the dirt and black marks in the small spaces, the wiring, the huge fan (that's me! (terrible pun is terrible I know)), and everything in general. However, I will complain about the background, being so close to the foreground really ruins the feeling of "large" because it doesn't have that distants. But I'm a terrible critic all in all, and I'm sure you'll know what's best =) + - And if it IS Chemical Plant Zone, where's the city!! =P
People who think this game is trying to "hark back to the more classic environments"...LOLWUT! Don't be dumb. This game more takes a functional design/physics cue from the classics, but the actual environments and graphic designs themselves are CLEARLY meant to be something entirely different/new/etc. It's also obvious that the level is unfinished, namely the backdrop.
This. I agree with some of the comments here that the gears don't really fit. Chemical Plant should be more, I don't know, "chemical-y" and less flat-out mechanical. Pipes and tanks are good, but gears should stay for Metropolis. I guess the gears could be fine as long as there weren't too many of them... I'm looking forward to seeing the backdrop finished though. Cityscapes are my favourite Sonic backgrounds. =)
The new level looks great! A clearly great mix of Panic Puppet and Chemical Plant. Can't wait to see how this level develops.
This means that you'll be working a lot on Casino Night too XD About the gears, hm, I was wondering if Eggman would implement some hydroeletric system on the plant, you know, to process more electricity for his creations. If that was the case, those gears would have some sense. Know what I mean?
