I laughed so hard at this.

This should be called Segalogy, the study of companies over-porting shit.

No, I assure you you're not. While I don't hold the projects he's worked on in high regard, I can see he's really trying to just do his job and I feel bad for him when I read these threads and see so many people just mindlessly throwing blame around.

Come on, how can anyone get mad at a guy who cut his beard into Tails' tails? Seriously? :v:

I bought the game for steam and is fantastic... I gave away five copies to some friends...

Really good game, I really wanted a re-release of this game, personally the best of all sonic 2d game...

    Congrats Taxman for this achievement...

Sonic CD was only ported because of the difficulties it would have faced being ported to multi platforms in its original release, which was the Mega CD version. On top of that, it wasn't even the best version, and porting the PC version would have been even more difficult. I see no reason why Sonic 1, 2 3 or Knuckles need to be re-released. What would we actually gain? Tails as a playable character?

I'd rather they didn't piss on Sonic 1 and left the game unchanged. If they keep re-releasing everything, then where it is gonna stop? Sonic Adventure, now with playable Cream, Blaze, Shadow, Rouge and Omega??

    You're a fucking moron.

    • Proper widescreen support
    • Silky smooth framerate (before you call me out on this, go lose your rings in Labyrinth Zone)
    • Prospect of releasing the game on lesser mobile devices incapable of emulating it at full speed
    • Leaderboards and unlockables. Yes, Tails as a playable character. People used to dream about this stuff, you know?

Its those points above and more that I still feel that this shouldn't be called a "port" even if Taxman doesn't mind it. its soo far above then what a port is associated with.

Kiss your mother with that mouth do you? (inb4 NO I KISS URS LOLZ). Do you think that if they could release Sonic CD on all their targeted formats originally without having to pay a bunch of people to do it all over again they would have done? of course they would have.

Sonic 1, 2, 3, K, 3D Blast and Spinball have all been released on formats supporting widescreen and their emulation and ratio has been changed to fit this. I can play the Sonic games on a widescreen TV in full screen perfectly with no noticeable stretching or distortion, and if I don't give a shit, why is the public going to? Not being actually able to port either original version of Sonic CD and having to rebuild it again would have been the reason why they would have then decided to put effort in to making it natively widescreen, seeing as they were working from scratch and it would have been stupid not to. As you know, Taxman already created his own demo of Sonic CD showing that with a lot of thought, it could be run on devices such as the iPod, which would have pushed SEGA to recreate the game for release on every format like it's currently doing with most of its Sonic games.

I would imagine Tails wasn't the first thing on their mind when they thought about CD, instead it seems very much so like they did it because they could with the rebuild, not because they desperately wanted to put him in.

Having achievements has sod all to do with them building it from scratch, because MegaDrive games on the Xbox support them already (see here). The leaderboard itself works in a similar way, so I am sure they could have integrated it regardless.

Lastly, Sonic CD was a "Gem". The MegaDrive games are more common than the entire cast of EastEnders, so rereleasing them with minor changes but having to redo the WHOLE SODDIN' GAME pixel by pixel is a stupid idea. They may as well do what they did with Sonic Jam's games and just edit them.

Edit; framerate? They can get away with slower framerates with the other games and we've put up with them for years, so again, I don't think this was priority, rather it probably came to fruition because of what they were doing, not the other way around.

    I... Okay.

Here I was thinking maybe I had overreacted a bit to that first post of yours. But no, thank you for taking the time to prove me right. You've made it much clearer than I could have ever hoped to.

Why would anyone complain about getting a really nice, touched up port/remake of a game that genuinely improves upon the original game's aspects with beefed up visuals, musical choices, new playable characters, etc? There's no reason to complain about that ever.

Might want to get your eyes checked, because all the emulated Megadrive/Genesis games are stretched if you make them 16:9. They haven't been changed one bit (in fact, based on my admittedly limited knowledge of Genesis emulation, doing so would be impractical if not impossible).

Also, most of the other things you said were at least flawed and in many cases outright wrong, but I'll let others tear you apart.

    I'm not complaining as such, but I don't think any re-releases are going to be drastically different enough to warrant a purchase. If they'll do with them what they did to Sonic CD, the games wouldn't have improved music, because there's nothing to improve without re-recording and changing the music (which wasn't what the 2011 release of CD was about) and losing a lot of its charm (even though Generations did get a lot of the classic music done brilliantly), and changing the graphics would totally alter the game itself. I also don't think there's any reason other than the widescreen argument to yet again release the MegaDrive games, and even then the stretching is barely noticeable. Obviously they DO have to be stretched to fit widescreen, but (hell, maybe I'm playing the wrong version) it's not like it sticks out. I'd much rather play the originals than have them rebuilt, and here's why else;

*We would lose out on all or at least some of the glitches and exloitable stuff in the game.
*We would lose out on having spot on physics, and as such speed running would be different in the games that we've been familiar with for over two decades. I don't know about anyone else but although it was fantastic, I found that speed running on Sonic CD 2011 compared to Sonic CD on the PC or even the GameCube was different because the physics did react in different ways.
*There's not really anything to add apart from Tails or Knuckles in Sonic 1 and does anyone really care? It's not like Sonic 1 had high places to go or anything, even Sonic 2 had special high up walls and places which you'd find difficult to reach unless you were Knuckles. Sonic 1 doesn't really have anywhere like that.

I'm sure they could add leaderboards to the classic ports already, and they can sure as hell have achievements. Feel free to pick on the guy with the different opinion but I've made some valid points. if you want to fork out yet more money for Sonic 1 (or whatever) with slightly widened screen sides, then be my guest, but I think SEGA should focus on Sonic now, rather than hopping back to his past. Doing anything to the original classics now after so many ports and re-releases would just be the middle finger to everybody. CD got away with it because there hadn't ever been a perfect version- the Mega CD had low quality video, and the PC version was buggy. The Gems Collection version goes one further by not even getting the water colour or lightning right and forcing 50htz mode on you.

That said, if they re-release the games in the style of the classic sections of Generations, then I'm all for it. I just think they should do all or nothing.

Yes, yes, yes. I would love any Sonic game updated to ruin speed running. I hope all games have their physics changed to do this.

Either way, you still haven't admitted that you were wrong about a lot of things that you stated authoritatively! Nice complete dodge at the beginning there, though, going onto a totally different train of thought—and way to play the victim card by transmuting your abject errors into legitimate opinions that simply differ from the majority and thus engender your persecution.

Your opinion is in a rather small minority on a board such as this one. I feel it best to simply tell you that almost everyone here was desperate for a proper re-release of Sonic CD, and when it came up many wished the same had been done with Sonic 1-3K.

Trying to tell these people they don't want what they've wanted all this time is sort of on par with coming in and going "Hey! Sonic sucks, Mario is the best!" It's not that you can't logically explain your position—it's that it's kind of missing the point entirely, the people here like "RETRO" things, after all, it is called Sonic Retro, not Sonic Modern. Good for you if you like those modern games and want them more than proper remakes of the old games.

Myself, I would love to have a full Sonic 1-3K collection where they did like they did in Sonic Jam, complete with widescreen and other new features (like maybe allowing both Knuckles and Tails into Sonic 1, of course we have hacks which already do that but, you know...)

Well fair enough I suppose that maybe I'm speaking to the wrong audience here. I joined Sonic Retro for the very same reasons as the rest of you but I guess I've spent too much time with the classics to want to pay to play them again and to have them messed around with. I suppose I am being quite picky about it, and you make some fair points, but I'm also sticking by what I believe for good reasons. If they wanna just go ahead and make 3&K with the Generations engine- and thus create the same games but without having them being shoehorned by the orginals style limitations- then I'd be happy for that to go ahead. I just went back a moment ago and had another play of Generations, and my god is that game friggin' awesome. I think if they're going to go back to those old games, then unlike CD, they should totally redo them, rather than add little features on for the sake of it.

I did understand entirely what you said, but for the love of god could you just speak in so called "everyday" english? If you think that I'm trying to hide my "errors" out of so called humiliation by actually having legit and explained opinions then fair enough, but for god sake write like you'd actually talk. I know full well you're not sat in a cape and top hat twiddling your moustache back there.

    Or are you?

This is the worst discussion ever, but I feel I should point out that some people do talk like that. You listen to enough Tim Minchin and it just happens.
