Please make digital copy's, these need to be preserved for history (and a lot of them are great as desktop wallpapers)

  2. These are THE hand made originals created by the artists with which all images derive. Edit... The posts from the last month have all been original artwork. Looking back on this thread some of the images posted are not artwork. Most of the material here is hand drawn. The artists sent me everything they had and sometimes they would have something that was interesting but it was not original artwork. Because this thread was assembled by a mod from many different posts you may have to ask specifically.

Most of the Sonic pieces were purchased directly from Greg Martin before he died. The Sonic board game art came from Greg Winters.

Eventually I may get rid of a few paintings but plan to keep these for now.

  3. I thought this one was already posted but I don't see it here now.

These are better pictures of board game art but have been pictured here previously.

    Life.
That first one of Sonic on a piano is the cover art of that Wacky Worlds game. Cool find!

If/when these go up for sale don't be shy about it.

  6. You are correct.
That one is by Greg Winters as well.

Edit somewhere I have some early concept art with Toe Jam & Earl on the cover. I could have sworn that I already posted it here but I can't find it now. When it turns up I'll take another picture.

Hey.... Don't I recall that artwork somewhere else? Yeah... let me think about that.... Oh right, this:

Looks like it was used as a placeholder cover. Thanks for the high quality camera pic of the original by the way!

  9. These are incredible, and I hope someone does some large-format scans of them. They're gorgeous, and should be preserved.

Sonic and Mega Man shaking hands was used as a cover for an issue of Game Players magazine:

I have the issue somewhere, I can dig around and find it. They usually listed the cover's artist in the front page of the magazine, so it could possibly tell us who drew that artwork, too.

The Sonic art on the birthday card is also in the official Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 strategy guide by Sega.

I remember other magazines using the Sonic & Mega Man image to illustrate the deal that became The Wily Wars, so it wasn't just a Game Players cover thing.

It also appeared in Sega Visions #12, April/May 1993, to advertise SFII Championship Edition: https://twitter.com/Kobun20/status/802852735053770752

Seems to be a Greg Martin piece: https://twitter.com/themmnetwork/status/802648522797547520

EDIT: Nevermind, it's been established that it's by Greg Winters.

    Stooop, that's a misconception!

This was a piece commissioned to symbolise Capcom stepping up to the mark as a fully fledged third-party Sega developer, having previously licensed out their properties to other studios (Ghouls'n Ghosts, Strider, Chiki Chiki Boys, etc.). More importantly it came with the promise that Street Fighter II would come to the Mega Drive, which was a huge deal at the time.

Mega Man: The Wily Wars didn't show up until much much later and had nowhere near the fanfare the internet thinks it did. Lest we forget it didn't even get a cartridge release in North America.

And it had zero fanfare in Spain. I only knew of its existance when it was released because I happened to read a mail order shop listing around that time.

Also, I think it was strangely cheap for a new release (around 20€, if I remember correctly).

Yup. Guy was a great artist but thanks to the USs art direction for those series at the time we ended up with that. Butt face Sonic meets baby creep face Mega Man.

Looks more like Greg Martin art to me. The shading style is very familiar.

  18. Here is another one that I don't think I've posted before.

It looks like it was from the letters page in a magazine.
    Anyone seen this published before?

What the hell? Who is Sonic calling lol

  20. Just moving some of my art around when I came across these board game pieces and remembered there was a question on the levels.
The markings on the outside indicate that it is the Scrap Brain Zone.
