Geesh, I don't remember properly. As I said above, it was way too long ago. Also, there's an episode of Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi that is entirely centered around a Sega Mega Drive, and the two of them even run up loops and roll down hill in a place that simulate Green Hill Zone in that episode.
Notorious BIG - Juicy: "Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis When I was dead broke, man I couldn't picture this "
Oh my, it appears that our little Asuka is friends with a pirate! Look at the Winning Fighter Disk - looks suspiciously like a blank CD with writing on it! Also, there's another moment in Evangelion - in the episode where Nerv has to siphon power from Japan, Kensuke and Toji are playing a Sega Saturn when the message is broadcast on TV.
The motion picture The Lost World: Jurassic Park has a Sega reference in it at the beginning. Malcom's daughter Kelly stresses her dislike for her aunt that Malcom forces her to stay with and excliams "She doesn't even have Sega!"
Thank you for bringing this up because I totally fucking forgot to. Plus nobody in #retro responded when I asked if it was a Master System. ;_;
From Can Can Bunny ep 4. Also, on the Maliki animation, I recall them using a Megadrive. Evangelion was Sega sponsored, as I recall, thats why the Saturn appeared so often. There were also a bajillion Saturn eva games.
If you look closely, it's actually Poyo Poyo. This was true for Death, Rebirth and the End of Evangelion. The original tv series wasn't sponsored, as far as I know, and if it was, the product placement would have been explicitly Sega, rather than "Seca". And there wasn't a bajillion, maybe 4 or 5 (and another 3 on Dreamcast) I remember this quite vividly. Malcolm was bemoaning how out-of-date the Saturn was. I think it was the first time I was made to feel old.
Josie and the Pussycats movie: while in the Virgin Mega Store there is a Space Channel 5 display with Ulala, also the arena at the end of the movie is teh Sega Mega Center (or something like that)
Jingle All the Way (Arnold Schwarzenegger): A Man-size Sonic Costume is seen dancing along with other characters on the street before the parade. That was really cool back in the day I was like "OMG Sonic :D!".
I think Malcolm was referring to how the games were too "childish" for him, not necessarily how old the system was.
Actually, I may be able to do a page on Sega references in popular music: Del the Funkee Homosapien - Proto Culture 311 - Brodels Viktor Vaughn - Let Me Watch Lupe Fiasco - I Gotcha Lupe Fiasco - Go Go Gadget Flow Pavement - Robyn Turns 26 We Are Scientists - Altered Beast Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy Notorious B.I.G. - Think Big Goodie Mob - Cell Therapy Asher Roth - Cannon Limp Bizkit - Jump Around Lady Sovereign - Those Were the Days Jay-Z - You're Only a Customer (More flavor than y'all can image havin'/ graphic like Sega Saturn ) There's probably more than that, no less.
This video from about 1:50 has a bunch of dreamcast games on screens in the background (JSR, Shenmue, Space Channel 5, Samba De Amigo, maybe others). I recall seeing this back when the video came out lol. The video is chock full of product placement mind, so it's no real surprise.
I see a roman numeral II in a circle between the two words, which is similar to how they did the Tsu logo (a gold-plated 2 in a circle behind the two words), so do they actually play the game in the show? (On another note, I did wind up beating Tsu early this morning, lol)
In an episode of Rosanne, DJ wants a Super Nintendo for christmas and both his parents and grandmother gets him one. So Dan hooks the one that they bought him up in their garage, and Mark says "Oh is this like that new game that just came out, the one with the hedgehog in it?" I can't recall what season the episode aired.
FUCKING THIS! I So wanted to share this but wouldnt have known where to find the image. thank you so much Eggfan.
That Thanksgiving episode of MegasXLR with the Macy's Parade thing. Sonic parody Augie made an appearance. link
