Hi guys. I wasn't sure if I should post this in its own thread or just in Random hacks/minihacks thread, but after asking my friends, I've got a response that it should be the first option (so blame them, not me if it's in wrong place :V).

Anyway, I present to you... Doctor Robotnik's Plan B! It's a boss hack I did out of boredom recently (and also when I was experimenting with Scorched Quest's bosses concepts - from these, only LZ will be used). It started with a GHZ boss edit, then later more bosses were thrown into the substance giving you this. I really enjoyed making this and I hope you will enjoy playing it as well.

    Features:
    • 7 new boss fights - the zones consist only of these, as nobody feels like playing S1 over again wit just new bosses. The bosses are using (mostly) original zone boss weapon in more or less direct way, except for SBZ, which originally didn't had a boss.
    • Besides from the main point, I added small little features:
      • Normal and Time Attack mode - added these after suggestion from my Team, so the game has a bitmore replay value. In Normal mode you get 5 lives, while in Time Attack you have infinite amount of these. The progress isn't saved so if you get a Game Over, you need to play it again (Normal mode only, as TA doesn't have Game Over's).
      • Best Times menu, where you can check the best times in each boss. Times are saved only when playing on Time Attack mode or from Level Select. After beating the TA mode fully you will also see the Times from current run until you return to Main Menu.
      • I've changed a bit the ending - it's accessible by either beating the game or selectable on the Main Menu (it's selectable after beating the game once).
      • Level select, which allows you to play a selected boss in TA mode. Goes back to SEGA screen after results card (this differs between modes). Like Ending, selectable after beating the game once.
      • Title screen has edited minor elements.
    Video:
It's here. It may look simplastic but it's only that boss, the others are, at least imo, more complex.

    REV00 - 07/08/2016.

    Future projections:
Probably none, as it was meant to be a simple boss hack. I probably won't do anything more on it until you'll really want it. Have fun with this thing, I guess. C&C as always welcome, it will helpme also improve my future boss fights and such. Greetings.

That was pretty fun! :) Loved the homages to 2 8-bit bosses!

I got as far as LZ. Then I made a risky jump. Then I tried replaying it and got a Game Over on SYZ. I'm good at games. //forums.sonicretro.org/public/style_emoticons/default/v.png/>
The SYZ boss definitely required a lot more thought and planning than the original. I'd argue it's a bit cheap since where he stops is where you have to hit him from.
Still, great work anyway. Outside of the SYZ Boss, all the ones that I've played were really well done, and even the SYZ boss would work alright with a tweak or two.

I see, sometimes hitting SYZ boss maybe really hard, especially with destroyed blocks. I'll try to change it somehow, probably flying over current Sonic's location before doing the shield. Thanks for opinions. I'll also change a bit other bosses following suggestions from other places as well.

The only problem I had really with the SYZ boss was that sometimes I'd bounce off the bumper into a pit, but that's just me being careless! :v:

  6. These boss ideas are very creative spins on the original bosses! I got stuck on the Labyrinth boss because if you get hit in the wrong place, you can just fall right to the middle and die.

Other than that, these are awesome boss designs! I hope to see more unique bosses in more hacks soon!!

Well this is a wonderful hack and I quite enjoyed it (even though some parts are challenging and difficult as fuck), it was a well done. Green Hill boss was easy and so was Marble boss. But oh boy! Spring Yard boss was a challenge. Then Labyrinth zone, somewhat easy if you do the easy long way. Starlight was interesting, that was created. Scrap Brain and Final, man the difficulty went up! Like really went up. The Final scare the shit out of me when those electric rod came out from the ground! Some parts of the boss are unforgivable but things are not always easy everyone.
My review is 4/5. Keep up the good work and I hope you do Sonic 2 and 3 if that ever happen.

Here's a save state for everyone that I made.

Could you at least add basic screenshots of the bosses? A video is good, but like...you'll get a lot more downloads/much more interested parties if you just bite the bullet/pride and pop some screens out there.

In fact, I didn't download it mostly due to that reason. I guess it's just the principal for me.

I thought that a video may be better for of showing purposes, but okay, I updated the OP with each boss screenshot and TA mode screenshots (results card and Best Times menu). Thanks for pointing it out. About the hack itself: I'm also working on a update with fixed problems and some minor edits so screenshots of these will be added to the current ones when done.

Getting the motivation to continue old projects
Liking the callbacks in a couple of them, and it's a fun thing overall! Though for the Labyrinth one, couldn't you make it so you don't have to worry about drowning in that act, rather than have the air bubbles always there? Unless that wasn't done for a reason, in which case don't mind me :v:

This really is something special, I'm pretty sure the previous version of this games final boss had some inspiration from one of the Game Gear games one but I cannot remember it to save my life. We never have too many custom bosses which are involved in game hacks so I am a big fan of them since we get a handful now and then.

Quite honestly they are all good, though I was tempted to say to maybe try out and replicate the bosses of the Sonic 1 Game Gear in 16 bit, since you replicated the labyrinth boss extremely well from it and I'd love to see how it would play out in this, also to mention is that right at the end when Robotnik leaped down, I sort of expected a surprise boss to show up, don't know if it was just me but I would find that to be an awesome thing to include. (Also when Robotnik is half down his hit points, a boss pinch is a fun thing to involve)

I do hope you continue into this with more depth as I am a big fan of a lot of your hacks and they are done very well in my opinion. :')

Hey, wow, thanks! Totally looks far more professional / makes me want to try it more, heh. In fact, I'll now give it a download and shove it on my PSP.

    Rock on, yo.
