BTW, what's the news on the software? I've talked to some people who have claimed it's impossible to get round palette limitations on a MD. Like, really, what are you gonna do about Supersonic? Even if you plan on making different versions of tiles for each palette, it's impossible to implement Supersonic - he flashes RANDOMLY, on any frame. What do you think?

At any rate, this work won't go in vain. It can be easily implemented in any homebrew Sonic game.

It's weird they chopped off his hand in Sonic 2...not to get off topic.

BTW, I don't think we really need separate sprite sheets for S1/S2. Why bother? Let's just use a better looking one.

I don't know... Both Eggmen just felt a bit different between both games.

It was even a bit more off-model in Sonic 1 (at least when looking at his more ellaborate mustache), as if they still hadn't established his final official appearance... Which reminds me of his old end-of-level signpost without yellow thingies, and the small icons with blue overalls.

I'm thinking we should set these differences between games, also changing Sonic's palette for Sonic 1, etc.

Same thing with Sonic himself, in Sonic 1 he was alot less shiny, had larger feet, and many other notable changes that were different in Sonic 1.

.. you do realise, right, that the reason he has no other hand is because it's behind the piece of wall?

Are you sure about that? The black there is part of the foreground because otherwise you'd see the actual background. Just casually looking through the pattern tables in Gens+ (which means I'm not looking at them as mapped, however) I don't see tiles for his right hand.

If not done via sprite priority, then I'd imagine via intention. I always assumed he had two hands on that sprite and it was just covered.

I'm almost done with the buzzer, but I am wondering should I shape-shine the head like Sonic and co. or go granite crazy like I did every thing else?

Any other critiques are welcome; just realize this it an in-between version of the sprite & the art found on this site.

That's ok for a first base!

While some metal shading is really good, there are things to do:

-Shape the mouth like the original frame
-Shade on face and bottom is absent
-Curve the antennas just a little
-The small circle connecting the tube to the bottom part of his body is wrong, need to be more in perspective and wider, so needs the rest of his back.
-The lower support of his jetpack has another piece attached to it instead of a shade.
-Jetpack need to be a little bigger

Nice work so far with the buzzer Drex, very nice!

- The face ought to be sharper, particularly the chin and nose
- The face ought to have darker red shading near the lower right side as in the original sprite
- Eyes ought to look a little less boggly (original sprite has some shading around the lower circumference)
- Yellow and Black abdomen ought to appear shiny near the top as in the original sprite
- Yellow and Black abdomen ought to have darker shading near the bottom as in the original sprite
- Darker shading for the "pipe" that connects the upper body and lower yellow-black body as in original sprite
- Darker shading inside the upper jetpack holes as in the original sprite

Thanks Vincent and Athelstone. I will do the touch-ups after I get some sleep.

He looks alright, but a bit too Banjo-Kazooie. Might want to un-boogle those eyes a tad.

Alright, I couldn't sleep so I worked on this till I couldn't see anymore (still can't). The ring at the thorax is still an eyesore due to Paint Shop being so inflexible with it's granites. Added more shading to the eyes, hopefully that helps with the Banjo thing. Shape of the head may be a little too sharp now, but I can't really tell right now. I did everything else asked of me so far. Critique. Feedback. I'm going to BED.

I guess you meant the bolt connecting the jetpack to the body. I put two smaller bolts there, but I don't think it looks right.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the end of the abdomen should be a bit narrower on the far end; it's almost an egg shape in the original.

Also, a little more feedback on the buzzer (get some sleep Drex!)

- Nose ought to be flatter at the end rather than curved
- Stripes on lower abdomen should be black rather than greyish
- Lower antennas should be red as in the original sprite

I am very pleased with how it's shaping up, the shading in particularly is really great.
