Is that how he'll be drawn from here on or is it only for the gimmick of the issue? If it is only for the cover... what a tease.

Well, in recent years, just 'cuz Spaz-art has been on the cover hasn't necessarily meant it'd be in the issue…

Yeah true some had really great cover art but meh actual comic work.|
EDIT: I posted this somewhere else figured I post it here as well:

What I think? this could be a game universe story! an arc about the game universe sonic the hedgehog which has never been done before. You notice that theres no mention of the FF or anything related to the comic universe and besides SEGA has already fucked up the fact that sonic has always had green eyes thanks to sonic 4 so don't use the excuse "but he has no black eyes?!" when explaining his past. its called "Retroactive continuity" people, look it up!
Yeah I know, that would count as a side story but your forgetting something: This is sonic's fucking 20th anniversary! SEGA is going to pull all stops to promote the crap out of this including maybe derailing the comic's main arc for a bit to promote game universe sonic the hedgehog's birthday instead of pushing it off on the universe comics. and what a better way to capture classic and modern fans alike with a genesis style cover!
I think its a neat idea. a game canon story explaining sonic's past adventures in 1/2/3k, but its touchy ground your disrupting allot of the retro fans holy ground and there already pissed that sonic has green eyes disrupting there story too would send them into RAEGGGG MODE!!!
If my prediction comes to pass, I really hope that archie and sega are careful in explaining an origin story for game universe sonic.

Now about the retcon thing, before you get your pikes and torches out let me explain. I, in my opinion, Think that sonic has gone through a retcon of sorts esp. the alteration part of retcon. SEGA has fucked up the story that sonic 4 is supposed to take place right after sonic 3k BUT sonic has green eyes and looks modern. now since nothing was ever explained by SEGA about the issue of why modern sonic is in a classic-style game thats supposed to be taking place after classic sonic saved the planet from classic eggman. the only possible explanation is that SEGA decided to do a retcon of sorts. Unless sonic went through puberty during that short time and eggman decided that his old clothes were too tight for him, it makes sense to me at least.

Green eyes and retarded longer quills on Classic Sonic. I see what you fucking did there Archie.
Judging from the description this sounds like it's going to be a series focusing specifically on the games themselves.
So no SatAM characters at all? I am intrigued. I haven't heard from Spaz in a long time either, I assumed he wasn't working with Archie anymore. I will never forget the work he did in Sonic #50.
EDIT: Wait, it says #226, so this is not a new side series. Lame.

Far as I am aware, Sonic the Comic didn't need any explanation whatsoever to make green-eyes Sonic work within their setting whatsoever, why would the games.
Though, I am personally thinkin' Sonic Pocket Adventure should come between 3 and 4 just to close the gap -- if only 'cuz from what I read, Eggman donned the old clothes throughout that game except for the final boss or somethin'. :B

That was STC though I believe archie had a similar explanation for their sonic as well. game universe sonic on the other hand never had an explanation.
Never played SPA because I heard it was mostly a sonic 2 clone. but I'll youtube that and see if thats true.
EDIT: Wow was I ever proven wrong. yeah it does look like eggman switched uniforms between the 2nd to last and last fight. strange. I would love to see a SPA: Genesis version someday.

Strange. I'm pretty sure I just said that in STC, there WASN'T an explanation, just like in the games. :B

Oh...my mistake then I'm in a rush!
Shouldn't try to read and change at the same time.

I wonder how many of you know that the comic has already been retcon'd once.
Has anyone here read the original mini-series? Sonic met Sally for the first time in #0. Later, during the Sonic Kids special, this was retcon'd to where they had known each other since childhood.

DAT COVER
Eh, it's pretty cool, I'll admit. Quite nice even, but why stop at the body? Just give him a full makeover whydontcha?
Anyways, the last time I saw something like this, I ended up rather disappointed with the final product, so yeah. I'm not expecting a miraculous turnabout in terms of writing and overall quality. Nope, sorry, I'll pass thanks. Not even a fabulous Oshima (re)design Sonic would be enough for me to shell out for it. I might leaf through it when I pay the comic book store a visit in the future.

I'm really digging the cover. I'm looking forward to this. It probably won't be what I'm thinking it is, but it's worth a shot at least. I'll have to take a look at it when it comes out.

Sonic the Comic DID have an explaination for Green Eyes- When Sonic was attacked by Chaos, a residue of Chaos Energy that either contained Tikal or served as a beacon for Tikal to find Sonic (never got that part) got stuck on his eyes, which is why he was the only one who could see her.
As for Sonic 4 needing to be a retcon, why should art shifts be a retcon?

Like I said, I think shift in art would fall under the "Alterations" part of retcon. the definition of alteration retcon is "overt change rather than mere addition."
Its a sortof-retcon. Not a full retcon but just enough change to fall under one.

So, do any of you know when the Death Egg saga or the Genesis parts of the comic are supposed to start?
I want to pick up these comics but I can't seem to find when they come out (it's like you never know when a certain issue of a comic comes out, it's just in stores one day... I'm having trouble finding out the releases of other comics too :/).
