I noticed a hiss pattern on several tracks where in the original game there is cut-off and just digital selience. Look at Zone Clear from the original game and the soundtrack version in Exact Audio Copy's wave editor with spectral view. It's also 25% louder than the original game's redbook audio but with a limiter. Maybe the loops were really that bad originally? EDIT: Looks like they couldn't get the artist name right and put SEGA. Pretty lazy. Besides... I hold onto my CD that bought from Japan and enjoy true CD Quality audio instead of iTunes quality. 1411kbps vs 256kbps here. Let's see.... inb4 Wavemaster goes after downloaders for getting FLAC... That's going to be new low. Calling it now.
Hmm, really? I thought it was only 512 that had the non-modified music. I will of course go through the trouble of getting the music, so I hope you are right! EDIT: The Special Stage music is the same as in final (fading out), while the one in 512 is superior, longer, loops.
OH GOD YES I'm too lazy to import, so this is a GODSEND to me. Plus, this probably means that they'll release the Sonic Generations tracks on iTunes, too! Totally gonna buy dat Sonic CD OST.
Yes, it is also missing the 510's speed shoes version. Fortunately, it does have non-fading tracks and the 510 title theme.
Yes the title screen was a bonus! Is there something bad with the beginning of Metallic Madness Bad Future? I can hear a very short digital mess right at the start. Oh, it is called 510. Damn those build numbers mix up in my head.
Sega should totally track down and release the Sonic OVA soundtrack while they're on the subject of soundtracks *hint*hint*
It's actually Wave Master who does that. (Specifically Jun Senoue.) Maybe I can let him know on Twitter?
I'd gladly throw down some money for a Sonic OVA soundtrack. I still have Foxeh's rip of it from years ago, but hearing those tracks in high quality would be excellent.
It's possible, since "Look-a-like" has already been released on an official album (track 13) by Wave Master. Although highly unlikely.
That's one of those short bugs I mentioned that the bin/cue of 712 has. The only audible one anyway. Pachuka made a re-rip later on, but it just had more errors - so this is what we are stuck with, unless someone can track down whoever bought the discs (or if Stealth still has his copy).
My guess? The vocal themes. Once again a sign of miscommunication between every part, whatever legal issues exist with those songs actually do extend to them being released in any form in the United States. That's why you get the regional issues popup. If they put it back up, do not be surprised if those two songs are missing.
It might have been what happened in 1993, giving SEGA another excuse to use their new studio that they built. Don't these singers ever worry about backlash for these actions?
Well it's back up now, and all of the songs are intact. Wonder why it went down in the first place...
So I listened to the newly remastered soundtrack and the original U.S. soundtrack. Holy shit, the U.S, soundtrack sucks compared to the Japanese one. It's been forever since I've played the game with the U.S. soundtrack and just wow... Only zone's music I prefer is Stardust Speedway, but the remix on the new remaster for Sonic CD's soundtrack and the Generations remix for Bad future was a massive improvement and are some of my favorite remixes in the series. Even then, I really like the Japanese version a lot as well. It makes me wonder if Spencer Nilsen is significantly better at coming up with compositions than he is at actually making music. Makes me wish all of the U.S. songs were remixed with the same treatment those two versions of Stardust Speedway got. >_> One of the biggest problems I had with both versions of the soundtracks is that some songs would have been a lot better without vocals, most specifically with MM for the Japanese soundtrack and a ton of songs on the U.S. soundtrack. <_< In regards to the newly remastered version, I thought the sound quality was pretty good and don't really have any problems with how it was handled other than that I wish it included at least one of the Stardust Speedway remixes from Generations. Never heard the extended mixes so I have no opinion on it.
Just a few quick words: 1. The loops are indeed handled quite poorly. Failed attempt of re-envelopings: TT (G, obvious fadeout was still there) QQ (a sudden volume increase near the last 8/8) WW (cross overlaid?) SS (obvious fadeout) MM (G, obvious fadeout) MM (B, cross overlaid is a bit too short) Boss (fadeout, again) Outright abandoning the tails of original meterials: CC (the densening drums are gone) TT (the last 8/8 starting at 1:50, the additional instruments are gone) SS (G, 1:13, oh the abruptness) SS (B, the densening drums are gone again) Decent ones: PP (All, especially B, where a new wrap-up is applied) CC (B and G, quite easy because the original already covered a full loop) QQ (G, although the choice of 2nd loop start is arguable) QQ (B, as well they could've omitted the beginnig 8/8 for the 2nd loop for a nicer transition) WW (Pr and B) MM (not so good choice of loop points again) FF (but why bother for a loop at all anyway, can just let it fade out like that) 2. Quite unrealistic, but it should be much much better if they rework the whole thing from scratch. Same choice of instruments (or better, or they still remember what they used), same melody layouts (new twists are welcome though), only with modern and refined audio production technologies. Compilation albums with hardly anything new is becoming disturbing more or less.
