At long last, a new update. Thanks everyone for the donations. I've reached my target which helped me greatly. I managed to sort out what I could. Unfortunately I've reached a road block on the VHS tapes for now until a solution can be made. I'll talk more about it in the other topic. In the meantime, here's everything you need to know about this Dreamcast promotional disc.

If anyone can upload these files onto a better server for everyone to download from, that would be greatly appreciated.

Note that the Sonic Adventure Autodemo's serial number is 610-2079 with the time stamp being (1998-10-16). While the Autodemo was the next promotional disc for SEGA to produce, it's no surprise that the Autodemo was all set and ready well before the Dreamcast Promotion Disk as the Autodemo was simply the TGS version with additional coding.

As I suspected, the Dreamcast Promotion Disk contained nothing more but a high quality video showcasing the Dreamcast and some of the games that were coming out for it. However, it wasn't a complete disappointment. Apart from having a high quality video of these games in action (some of which were still in their development stages), there was this lovely gem which we've never seen before.

Look forward to whoever can provide either a youtube version or download of this dreamcast video. In any case, enjoy!

Apart from recently acquiring some Japanese SEGA Promotional VHS tapes which I talked about [here], I've also recently acquired this little oddity. All of which have been shipped out and are on their way as we speak.

There's very little info about it apart from what's posted [here] (that's who I bought it from). The model number is 610-7027. According to [this], it's the second promotional disc that was released (the first being Dream Passport) followed by a series of promotional discs called Dream Preview (model numbers are 610-7027-00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06) which I'm still after. Next after that was the Sonic Adventure Autodemo (model number is 610-7029). If this disc is anything like the Dream Preview discs given their model numbers, it'll most likely have preview videos and not actual game data. At least that's what one person who had a Dream Preview disc said [here].

I noticed under "Contents", it mentions something about Sonic Adventure. I go into all the details about it [here]. But like I said there, even if this disc only has preview videos, there's still plenty to take from this disc. We'll have raw clean crisp clear version of these preview videos straight from the GD-ROM. We'll have more information about this mysterious Dreamcast promotional disc in general and it's another one to cross off SEGA Retro's hit list [here].

If it's alright, I would like to do a little donation for this Retro exclusive. Not looking for the whole thing to be funded, but if anyone could chip in a little for the fees, charges, shipping, packaging, etc. That would great. Let's face it, if the fees and shipping charges don't finish me off, the import charges will. I'm looking around £75 in donations. My PayPal address is: [email protected]

tl;dr - Found rare and unusual Japanese SEGA/Sonic stuff. Would like to do a donation (target being around £75). My PayPal address is: [email protected]

Cheers for that drx. Looking forward to backing this up for everyone.

Thanks for the donations so far folks (SoNick and Jelq God). I've so far received £20 in total. The target being around £75. As I mentioned in the other topic, every little helps so it's greatly appreciated.

Update: I have received a small update on the stuff that's been shipped out to me. It's now arrived into the UK and is being assessed for import duties and local taxes. A price hasn't been determined yet and I probably won't find out until first thing next week. No doubt will it be anything but cheap. Here's hoping it won't be too bad.

Many thanks to drx, Twinfy, Jen and everyone else. I've received a total of £65 with the target being around £75. That's helped me quite a bit.

Update: Import duties and local taxes were assessed which to no surprise wasn't cheap but that's all been paid off. It didn't take long for the package to arrive. So I've now received all the items and will be sorting out the stuff I can sort out over the weekend. Unfortunately I need to buy one more tool to do the VHS tapes which I won't be able to sort out until I get paid Friday next week.

    Until then, hang ten.

    Here's the video:

    Contents:
In terms of SA1. seeing what was shown of Twinkle Park those ships look really interesting. For one, they're swinging instead of raising up and down. The camera angle as Sonic goes around the ship on the left is also different (facing towards it rather than away from it) and of course, the ships also look very different to how they appear in the final game. I'm very curious as to whether this is the same case in the AutoDemo or not.

No offense, but you did a really shitty job. Instead of converting the video, you recorded it playing back on your PC so we get to hear the Windows Update chime and hear the audio stutter at points. Here is a direct rip from the disc, with audio levels normalized and video upscaled to 720p to compensate for YouTube compression:
    http://youtu.be/GD-Ry7UyTjo

Note that the original MPEG streams on the disc are only 240p, so the only advantage is going to be audio that isn't choppy.

    None taken. :)
You're right, directly ripping the files from the disc is a much better way of going about doing it than what I did. I only noticed the Audio problems and the Windows Update chime after the whole thing was uploaded and was kind of annoyed about it frankly.

On a more minor note I've got a question to ask: Some of the footage that was used for the SA1 trailer in this video was also used at other events such as the Tokyo International Forum, but has that Sky Deck footage (about 2:15 in your video) of Sonic and the large cannon been shown anywhere? I'm only wondering because I noticed that the ground around Sonic there is totally red without any of the grey parts, which is the same way it appears in the AutoDemo.

I had assumed Sky Deck was a later addition - I don't recall having seen it in shots and footage this early before.

The frame rate looks appalling, probably because some parts are still running at 60FPS and the dip is more noticable. But I'll have to check to see if it's the same in the final build - it's the sort of thing I might not have noticed in 1999.

EDIT: No it's not, and the camera is totally different too. p.s. Dreamcast Promotion Disk.

What frame rate is that video, by the way? Did YouTube preserve it correctly?

The MPEG stream in the SFD's was 29.97fps, so I retained the 29.97FPS when exporting the upscaled version.
