as far as scans go, which template is better? {{MCDBox}} or {{32XBox}} (or both)?

Actually I'd be tempted to make a unique MCD32XBox template...

The only problem with that is that'd you'd also need a MCD32XCart AND MCD32XDisc, and that just strikes me as weird.

Maybe we should write a page sepcifically explaining CD 32x games, because I have no clue about them at all and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

As far as I understand, CD32X games are games which play on the Sega CD but use the 32x's hardware extensions. Since nearly all the releases are FMV games, this mostly served to improve picture quality.

That information isn't on the wiki - and before reading through here I had no idea that they were only CD based and such.

Ahh, I don't really know where that'd go on the Wiki, myself.
As for the game releases, as far as I know besides the picture quality like I mentioned, the only notable gameplay change in any of the "upgraded" CD32x versions is that Night Trap replaced all referneces to using the Sega Genesis controller to more genericized interface references.

The last couple of posts inspired me to create an article: http://segaretro.org/Sega_Mega_CD_32X

The allgame platform info page was quite useful. Was an official name ever given to the combination? I used Sega Mega CD 32X because it matches the JP/EU naming preference used elsewhere, and the Mega CD came out first. In any case, someone with privileges/know-how can set up redirects, etc. if they want. smile.png

I also marked(*) the 5 dual-platform games on the Mega CD and 32X pages, and linked them to the new article; as well as tidying the 32X intro a bit.

It's not much, but hopefully it's some contribution to the effort!

It's officially "Sega Mega CD 32X" on PAL packaging, "Sega CD 32X" on US packaging. I'm almost certain this mess of a hybrid never made it to Japan.

I've gone with "Sega Mega CD 32X" since that conforms with the rest of the wiki but I suppose it could go either way, what with the 32X being an American invention.

But I think if we dwell on the name too much we'll be putting more thought into it than Sega did at the time.

Thanks; I added that (though I forgot your caveat about Japan, if that's the case). And good point about dwelling on the name, heh. Also thanks to SS and OL for their edits.

All mine smile.png As for sources - the MDs and MCDs are from boots, yeah. The 32X I actually bought off a friend years ago (and is the only 32X I have) - they're surprisingly hard to find on the ground at boots. Probably because no-one fucking bought them. XP

25/06/10 23:00 EDIT: http://segaretro.org/Sega_32X#Box_Scans now has a complete PAL box~
