http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp Look down through the listings and you'll see it.
The GameGear version was pretty frustrating due to the smaller screen resolution, so playing the game full-screen should be much more enjoyable. I loved the first game so I shall certainly download this one. I mean, it's only $5 after all.
Maybe now the first boss won't be such a pain in the butt. =O

Mm. I had more fun with Sonic Labyrinth than I did with the Game Gear version of this game.
Are there any differences in level design and whatnot, or is it largely the same game?

Errmm, am I the only one to think the first boss on GG is just as damn easy as SMS?

No, but perhaps it is easy only after establishing the correct strategy on the Master System version.

Erm.... no, the other way around. The first boss of Sonic 2 was a lot harder on GG because the metal balls came flying at you at different speeds and can either bounce too high or too low, thus making it hard to jump or dodge correctly before being hit.
The boss on SMS was a lot easier. The metal balls came at you at the same speed, and the same height, which were a lot easier to dodge. Easiest boss on SMS; Third hardest on GG.

The game has been released on Japanese VC so it's likely to come out in the U.S. soon.

I can do the boss every time on the Master System. I never have once on the Game Gear version. The GG one annoys the shit out of me, dude =P

Beating the GG version is apparently a badge of honor, just because of some of the tricky jumps in Green Hills Zone 3 or beating the first boss... pretty much stuff that's made a lot harder due to the smaller resolution. I gave the master system version a try on the PSP and it was so much easier.

I actually have a Game Gear and a copy of Sonic 2. I have only passed Underground Zone a few times, because that boss is too hard. I eventually gave up on the game. Lower resolution + changing speed and bounce height of metal balls = hard to an unfair level. I have yet to play the Master System version, but now that I've heard thet the boss on the Master System is easier, I'll have to download it and try it.

You could just play the GG version using the SMS resolution. Many emus allow for that.
You'll have some invisible walls where the GG screen ends, but it's better than nothing.

Back in the past I'm sure my original MS copy had the boss drop balls high and low, yet the rom version I've played lately has them all at the low dropping level.
I still need to check next time I can as my master system is with my cousin now, but I'm sure the boss was much harder in the past.

If you're emulating, why not just play the Master System version? I'm on about on hardware =P

I picked the GG version up after years during my last trip home, and on both attempts at the game I passed the first boss. On the first attempt, I only died once due to a silly mistake and then beat it. It really isn't that hard.
