I descovered the reason why on the beta tails keeps doing strange things - he doesn't follow Sonic :o Hopefully this hasn't been noticed already, but tails uses a kind of delayed movement (which explains why he doesn't always stick by Sonic and doesn't follow him at the end of the level). I didn't see it anywhere on this site so I thought I would post it in. <_<
Hmm, then that may explain it. There are also times where he seems to walk in the air when he's going off a slope.
also, if you manage to finish a level with tails, you can control him while the end level music's playing
He's talking about how sometimes Tails will do weird stuff, like you can walk and jump fine but you can't crouch or spindash because it thinks that he's off the ground or something, I don't think anyone's nailed it down yet. Also, I've had Tails continue walking up a slope even after the slope ended (meaning he continued moving in the air, at the same angle and velocity he was moving on the ground).
I don't remember those things happening to me in the Sonic 2 prototype, but the slope thing you mention is easy to do in Sonic 1, in Scrap Brain Zone with debug turned on. Looks like they fixed that bug in Sonic 3.
I tend to have this happen when I use debug a lot, eventually Tails' code or data gets fouled up and things like that start happening. I've also had him freeze in mid-air in his rolling pose. And yeah, I've experienced similar in Sonic 1. I *think* I've also done it in SYZ, but it's been a while since I've really played Sonic 1.
Oh, but that's in the final version. I believe Black Squirrel is speaking of Tails' behavior in the beta.
No, I mean I've had shit like that happen in the beta. Matter of fact, I was just playing it yesterday.
obviously its tails' dodgy coding not completed or refined yet. You'd think in a beta they wouldn't have all the bugs sorted out yet <_<
Although it's the beta and tails' movements aren't finished you'd think Sega would at least make him look at Sonic from time to time, but really he's just a delayed Sonic. I mean he uses the same ring counter and the same life icon. Straight away you can say he's based of Sonic, but just won't die. Really in the prototype he probably acts like Sonic would in the testing of Sonic 1, and I know this is odvious. Also I've noticed that when he dies and dropps down from the screen sometimes he rolls into a ball when he touches land and then dies again. Why roll into a ball?
Because he's scared to die. :P Or maybe it's because his flying action wasn't programmed yet, and they made him use the rolling action as a placeholder. Oh, and... That's very wierd, specially since Tails isn't programmed to fly yet. I can understand that happening in the final Casino Night, but... Are you completely sure of this? If you can make that happen again, please post a savestate of it.
this is a BETA version (more like alpha, but either way), there are suposed to be problems like that. That's what testers are for. PLAY PLAY MY GAME TESTERS. PLAY THE UNPLAYABLE VERSION OF A HIT GAME UNTIL YOU DISCOVER EVERY LAS T BUG. MU HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *ach-hem*, but you're probabaly right. Tails should have been left alone after this point in development though, it would have been kinda funny to see him walk through walls in the final version (and I have seen him do that every so often in both beta and final versions of Sonic 2.)
Obviously the testers for Sonic 3 were blind or had their eyes shut. I remember I was playing and Sonic got stuck in rolling position... this was on Sonic Jam, and I never found out why it happened... never really cared. Temporary invincibility. :D
