https://www.slideshare.net/brownejacobson/sumo-digital So someone on Resetera found this, and it seems informative, especially this slide here: A new kart racing game? From a well establshed IP? ...could it really be true? Could Sonic All Stars Racing 3 be happening?!
LittleBigPlanet Karting 2 :v: If it's truly a third Sega kart racing game, the idea of Yakuza characters racing in a Puyo level fills me with giddiness.
Looks like Sega just shot it down via Aaron on Twitter: https://twitter.com/RubyEclipse/status/958432562304532480 There's a thread on ResetERA about it here but basically Aaron's tweet confirms a third Sonic racing game is categorically not in development - which then raises the question about what Sumo's kart game "based on a global IP" could be. Most on ResetERA are predicting Crash Team Racing - though hypothetically Vicarious Visions could make that - so what could it be? I'd say a new Diddy Kong Racing game could be a possibility - but on Sumo's presentation slides Nintendo is not listed as a partner (whilst Sega is) so in truth fuck knows.
There's a lot of weirdness in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, from its horrible name to the odd DLC characters and an underlying tone that it maybe wasn't quite as well researched as it thought it was. If it were to be made, I'd prefer it to be taken back in-house and developed in Japan, personally. I don't want people to forget that Sumo Digital consciously added NASCAR racer Danica Patrick in the last game.
Very true, but it came closer to being an acceptable love letter than most recent output from SEGA (barring obviously good shit like Mania). It would have gone a long way if ANY of the characters from the DLC poll that never ended up meaning anything had managed to make it in, but I guess nothing could be done about any of that. It's too bad. I just avoided beating the mission that unlocks her. :specialed:/>
I think they just need a bit more direction. Overall though they put out a really good product. It just had some weirdness to it. Danica Patrick was a mistake though, but if they had to sell themselves out a bit to get money to produce a game that was as good as it was then it's harmless enough.
I loved All Stars Racing Transformed. Even the absurdity of Danica Patrick being in a Sega kart racer. I think if we had a sequel though, I'd like to see a lot more tracks dedicated to obscure Sega games, and tone down the amount of Sonic tracks. But at the same time, I would be happy with anything.
I still think they should do a crossover with the Mario Kart series, I can't believe that all we got so far from those two are a few Olympic videogames and a Smash Bros or two. Gamers from my era have been waiting for decades for an actual game with Sonic and Mario in it, and while the main series might be forbidden for whatever reason, I can't see what prevents them from doing a racing game.
I honestly think that would even help Mario Kart a bit. In addition to allowing new level themes they wouldn't have to put in dud characters like "Pink Gold Peach" or all the babies.
I'd rather like another SEGA Racer from Sumo. Imagined it having an OutRun mode where you drive through routes with different SEGA games, with maybe like going through the rings with Ecco on a boat and an After Burner stage in the air if they want to bring in those mechanics. They did port OutRun 2, after all and it would differentiate it from Mario Kart. But that's just because I really want another OutRun game and would appreciate drfifting through checkpoints as Ryo Hazuki in City Escape.
