So I was talking with a friend of mine on Skype today while I was waking up somewhere around the afternoon, and she mentions that there is a Russian Sonic Convention that starts tomorrow on the 23rd. This convention runs for about a week surprisingly, and it sounds more to me like a great big get-together/slumber party the more I hear about it. What they do is have a picnic with some quest games in the mix of things, renting a huge room for people to come and bring their consoles and games in for a couple of days. This event takes place in Moscow, and while I'm probably the last person to be talking about this, I thought the idea was pretty great really. Best to spread the word about it really to anyone here who knows more information about it and might even attend.

IN CAPITALIST AMERICA, YOU GIVE AWAY MEGAMIX. IN SOCIALIST RUSSIA, MEGAMIX IS SOLD TO YOU

WHAT A COUNTRY etc

I'm interested now actually in how many other countries have done something like this for Sonic now, actually - the US has done Boom, the UK has had SoS...

I've read about this on Sonic CIS, as they've been organizing this for a while—it sounds pretty cool, though just marginally Sonic-related as far as I can tell. On the other hand, they're having barbecues and kebabs, which I think we need to steal for any future events.

This alone is probably interesting

There's so many Mega Drive clones from Russia and China that I gave up documenting them all.

What is "globalka" (global convention)?

Every year, at summer, at the end of July-beginning of August, the big convention is held in the Moscow, which lasts a week, where come members of SonicCIS community from all Russia and CIS countries. During it different events are helf, which allow regular user to to walk in a pleasant funny company, to play outdoors, to touch and play the games he couldn't play before, and, of course, to have a good mood until the next summer.

Without a doubt we will do it this summer too!

Globalka will be held in Moscow during 23-31st July.

Everything will be split for a few days, taking place at weekend if possible.

Day first - opening. All who wishes go to the appointed place, walk, communicate, learn each other, and in any case, do not hesitate! It's the best event of all convention. Also at the openning for two years already Sonic CIS awards ceremony has been held, where, by the way, you can take part too.

Day second - event (most likely). It's an interesting and exciting quest, which is being prepared by the group of activists led by the main activist - Scorpicora. By the way, everyone wishing can become her aide.

Day third and fourth - kebabs with outings and overnight stay. It's one of the most difficult to organize event, so we welcome any assistance from participants.

Day fifth and sixth - gaming. We bring our hardware in a room where championships with cool prizes are held, contests, and where you can play all modern consoles.

There is more about cost and other organization moments, but I'm too lazy don't see any point in translating it.
